Re: What grade of fuel do you use?

I too notice different fuel brands effect the performance and feel in the vehicle. I am a Shell Vpower guy, however since I bought it i've been using only Chevron with Techron.

According to my Service Technicians here at work (I work for a dealership), it takes 300 miles or 3 full fill ups to have the ECU adjust to that type of grade. Im thinking the next time I am on E im going to fill 89 and continue like so and see the results.

Re: What grade of fuel do you use?

I have the V6...I use 89oct....the vehicle feels more spirited then when using 87.
Plus its a between grade not the worse and not the best. The vehicles PCM maybe tuned for 87 but believe it or not a V6 making 290hp is a high performance engine.
The vehicle is only tuned for 87oct because the U.S. government requires it. That's a fact.
Money wise, were I'm at its a 0.10 difference so on the 24 gal. tank its like $2.40, thats not gonna break the bank.

Re: What grade of fuel do you use?

Oy. The difference between 87 and 89 is how fast it burns, not how much energy is in it.

The Pentastar is designed for 87 and is about as high a compression as you can go without detonation. If running too hot (to me that is over 200F) then it may need 89 but only if you are getting retard (can watch the advance with a laptop and a $30 gadget from Amazon).

With direct injection the cr can go higher.

Re: What grade of fuel do you use?

Here in oz we have up to 98 ( although I dont think its apples with apples) wife had been filling up with 98 as she drives it mostly, i needed fuel and without thinking i put in 91, she says whats wrong with the car its really sluggish !!!! so there you go, suffice to say its 98 now and uses a bit less fuel also. 3.6 v6. at 4000km

Re: What grade of fuel do you use?

I use 87, i may let the tank get to E and try the mid grade. I also only use Exxon Fuel off brand fuel as stated above just doesn't have a good mixture and always seems to make my new baby spit and sputter like it has a lot of water in the gas mixture.

Re: What grade of fuel do you use?

I run either Mobil or Kwik Trip (Wisconsin) 89. Seems to run smoothest on Kwik Trip though. I really question whether or not you are truly getting 89 octane at certain stations.
