Cool What happened to the cup covers?

This view showed up early on for both the Limited and Overland, but I haven't seen the covered cup holders in any recent promo materials or on a lot in any model. Does anyone know if this is still an option, or was it just concept that never made it into production? Would have looked sharp I think.

Re: What happened to the cup covers?

Was a concept. I would assume because it limited the size up the cup it could hold.

Re: What happened to the cup covers?

I like the look of covered cup holders....but I bet they figured it wouldn't work in North America.

Re: What happened to the cup covers?

I would have left it open anyway as my refillable travel cup lives in one and pump Purell lives in the other.

Re: What happened to the cup covers?

It probably had to due with durability of the door in that location plus with the side door open there would be a big gap where the door opens into for things to fall into and you'd have to take the whole console apart to get at.

The Germans tend to; their cupholders also tend to not swallow the mammoth drinks we get from the convenience stores here in the US. In Germany, eating/drinking while driving is generally frowned upon and isn't as commonplace as in the US and Canada- of course, our road trips will often be far longer than theirs, so it's more of an issue here.

As for the GC holders and the door, I think the production version with the bare but lit ones looks very nice and are very functional; there's nothing to break and no places to lose M&Ms down in the cracks.

Re: What happened to the cup covers?

view it as one less thing that could break/not work properly or damage. they use a spring loaded system that often fails after long use. and yea the illuminated cup holders to me adds sophistication and class.

In Germany they don't order a bucket of cola with their hamburgers...

Re: What happened to the cup covers?

I'm not a fan of our cup holders because they cannot accommodate my daily, required dose of cold caffeine:
