What made you feel dumb today?

My car has been at the dealership for the past few days. Check engine light was on and they were back logged. While it was there, I asked them to investigate the rattling coming from the tonneau cover. It's been driving me nuts (I even created a thread about it).

So I go to pick up my Car and the service advisor is walking through what was wrong with the engine. Simple leaky hose. Then he says "oh and we figured out the rattle. It's your license plate frame". I never even thought about it being the issue. Needless to say I felt pretty dumb because that seems like an obvious culprit.

So what did you do today that made you feel dumb?

Re: What made you feel dumb today?

Replaced batteries in a remote control and fiddled with it and TV settings for an hour and still didn't get it to work. Complained to the wife in passing and later saw she had it working fine. What did she do? Replaced the batteries.

Re: What made you feel dumb today?

The other day at work (I am in IT), a woman put in a trouble ticket saying her computer was freezing up repeatedly, and that she had had to hard restart (using the power button) a few times, losing all her unsaved work. I went over and witnessed the freeze up. She had a lot of work to do, so rather than troubleshoot, I swapped the computer out for a new unit. Figured I would troubleshoot her defective computer at my desk, and then re-purpose it for someone else after replacing the defective part.

Later that day, she complained about the same issue.

I went and took a closer look, rather than trusting her description of the issue. Turns out it was just the computer mouse that was going bad and intermittently stopping. So rather than replace a $10 mouse, I replaced a $1000 computer. DOH!

Re: What made you feel dumb today?

I haven't done anything dumb today, but yesterday, I got confused because the line was running very slow, because of a robot breaking down, and right before break, I forgot to give the line some exhaust pipes!!!!

They called over walkie talkie, and luckily, I got there just in time to keep it running...

We all make mistakes, I guess.

My license plate also rattles like crazy. The little pads underneath just aren't enough to keep it from rattling from the music. Considering I'm not the only one, I'll be suggesting 4 bolt attachments to keep that thing secured in ALL vehicles from here on out.

Re: What made you feel dumb today?

Not today....But two months ago traded my 11' JGC for a Lexus GX 460, which made me feel dumb for ever getting rid of my Jeep. Then I feel really dumb because I have to take the depreciation hit to get rid of a vehicle I don't like.
Back in a Jeep so all is good

Ha, I came close to buying a GX 460 and then I sat my butt in a JGC. No comparison other than the GX might have fewer problems long term.

Re: What made you feel dumb today?

Ok I'll own up to being dumb today.

We have a lot of tradesman at our place at the moment doing a large landscaping job. Cue a few tradies utes parked around the place.

Hopped in the KL and saw the Ford Ranger parked to the left hand side of it and was aware of the Hilux parked to the right hand side of it but failed to see another Hilux parked further down the slope with its arse end sticking out. (Why would you park that way?) Rhetoric question.

Anyway, the KL saved me. If it wasn't for its auto braking feature on reverse (big red BRAKE on the EVIC) and auto slamming on the brakes I would have hit his rear end sticking out.

Yes, before you ask, I have the rear camera but for some reason this morning (blame not enough coffee) I didn't look at it and I also ignored the screaming of the rear sensors.

Too many sensors going off for the other vehicles parked so close (that I did avoid). It was a very narrow exit that I had but I admit - complete fail on my part of being aware of the 3rd ute parked just out of line of sight except for his big rear end.

What's worse is the tradies looking on. Shaking their heads and going 'women drivers' and yep, they would be right in this case.

Great feature that auto brake on reverse on the KL though.

Re: What made you feel dumb today?

It wasn't today, but...Friday was my birthday. All day my students kept asking "How old are you?" Not really caring if people know how old I am, I politely answered them all "I'm 44 today". At the end of the day, my wife asked me "So do you feel older today?" Smugly, I answered "44 doesn't feel any older than 43". Looking at me with a puzzled expression she stated, "Dear, you're not 44...your only 43."
