I use 89 unless only 87 available when I tank up. Never noticed too significant a difference. Would recommend 89 if towing, long interstate trip, or in mountainous conditions.
Why 89 on the interstate? The loads on the engine are very minimal when cruising. I would use 89 for stop and go driving and towing, if you choose to put 87 in the tank.

Re: What Octane?

89 minimum always and occasionally 93 (I know not recommended but one local station has only 87 or 93 )

Does your export version's manual indicate that >89 octane is okay? Or does the Dubai importer do a software tweak for this?

Or does it really matter in practice?

They may use another method to compute octane, can someone verify whether they use R+M/2 method?

Sorry. From here, anywhere on the interstate highway system takes me to hills. This part of mid-Michigan is flat (....r-e-a-l-l-y flat....) so I instinctively based my 89 octane recommendation to OP on that topography.

Since I use 89 octane (R+M)/2 as a primary preference anyway, it's usually not a decision for me. Even when I have to use 87, I fill up at ~1/2 tank level with 89 at the next pit stop. [Difference between 87 & 89 octane here is normally about $0.10 per gallon, FWIW.]

I will check the manual later. I am sure they DONT do anything to the software and I expect that the method of obtaining octane grading here must be different, but canít find definitive answer anywhere.
