Re: What oil do you use?

Last oil change I used G-tech. It was free after mail in rebate. So far I love it. Actually getting 15+ extra MPG.

No oil is going to give you that insane jump in MPG.

I changed the oil at 1,800 miles and have been doing it subsequently at 6,000 intervals and sending every sample to Blackstone for analysis. 6,000 does not seem to be a problem for the oil.

The samples at 7,000 and 13,000 miles still showed a significant (but decreasing) amount of break-in metals. The most recent sample @19,000 was clean.

Incidentally, the local dealer flat out lied to me about the oil they were using. They initially told me they were using Pennzoil synthetic, and when at the next oil change I asked for the exact product name because I was doing the UOA, the tech looked uncertain for a bit and ultimately, nervously revealed they were actually using "Siegel Titan", some local rebranding of cheap bulk oil. Really pissed me off. That might explain the 7,000 and 13,000 miles samples. The one at 19,000 was Mobil 1. I really should have made a bigger deal about it, but I was so pissed at them I just decided to never go back there unless it was for a warranty issue. This was Faricy Boys in Colorado Springs.

Great info! I never really thought about the dealer lieing about the oil they are putting in, but it makes sense. I'm sure they try to save a few buck wherever they can and the general consumer wouldn't care as long as it's "synthetic". Glad I decided to bring my own oil and will continue to do so.

6k intervals seems good, hopefully my local walmart will have the Ultra in by the time I go in for my next oil change.

Or unicorn oil. A quart or two every 10k miles does magical things to your mpg.

This is one of the big reasons I do my own oil changes. If a dealer would lie I don't put it past the quickly places to mix some old oil in with the new to reduce their costs.

Also I know at least 3 people who have lost their oil and blown their motors after getting quickly oil changes due to incorrect oil filters sand loose or stripped drain plugs.

Re: What oil do you use?

The 2nd best after Amsoil is Pennzoil Platinum Ultra. Since I wasn't able to get my Amsoil dose of 5W20 (due to lack of local stck) I went with Pennzoil and a Mopar OEM filter.

I'm confused. Why did you have 24 oil changes built into your financing and then you bring in your own oil? Am I missing something?

The ones I had added to my financing are for a regular oil change with conventional oil. The one they normally charge $39.99 for, I paid under $15 for. At the end of the day I spend the same as it would cost for me to do the change myself with Synthetic, but they provide the filter, labor, disposal of oil etc...While I relax on the couch or check out the new Jeeps for 30 min.

Re: What oil do you use?

Red Line or Amsoil. Depends if one is in stock or not.
