Ah gotcha. Good thinking!

I'll take advantage of the synthetic oil change specials Advance Auto Parts has on sale at the time. Last month I bought a couple Pennzoil Platinum and K&N oil filter specials of 5qt jug and filter for $30 with $10 rebate.

Thanks. When they got it down to under $15 per oil change I figured I really couldn't lose out on the deal. Being able to bring my own oil and have someone else do the work and provide the filter sealed the deal. Walmart here seems to beat any of the auto parts stores around here but if I could find that deal, I would stock up on it!

Re: What oil do you use?

Seems like most here are either using Pennzoil or one of the boutique oils. Hopefully it proves to be a good decision in the long run. I just remember the days of Mobil 1 being the king of synthetic oils.

Right now, on the Jeep, I am going by what the dealer's windshield sticker says... surprisingly 3 months or 3k miles. Once my free oil changes are done, I will do it myself at every 5k miles with Mobil 1 synthetic. If I go trail driving in the Jeep, I will change a bit earlier. I believe oil changes are like cheap insurance.

I did the same on my old ZJ and that thing ran like a champ. On the Porsches, the recommended oil change interval is 15k miles. I change it every 7500 miles or once a year if I do not put 7500 miles a year on them (especially on my bike and the Boxster).

Cheers,
-S

Re: What oil do you use?

1st oil change at 3000 miles I used Valvoline full synthetic oil. 2nd change at 7500 miles I used Mobile 1. I am going back to the Valvoline full synthetic next change. I am doing the changes when the oil indicator says to. I am timing out on the 6 months limitation of the indicator, as I only put on about 10K miles per year. I bought a couple of 3-packs of Mopar 3.6L oil filters from Amazon.com (for about $6.50/filter delivered).

I see that WalMart has a nice price reduction on 5-quart Valvoline full synthetic this week for $24.97, so I will have to pick some up.

Re: What oil do you use?

Mobil 1 oil for me, mandatory in SRT models, Viper, corvette and many other performance vehicles, good choice.

Re: What oil do you use?

I got a Mailer from the Dealer 5 oils change $60 bucks.

$12 an oil change it's not worth me to go buy oil and everything else.

When they run out ill either be using Something with added Zinc like Quaker state Defy or Amsoil.

I don't need this bitach ticking like my 4.0L i got because previous owners didn't use zinc rich oil on her.
