Question What should I pay???

Ok so here is what I am looking at:

2013 Overland 4x4
MSRP: $47,410
Invoice: $44,457
Current Offer: $44,000 - $500 rebate ($43,500)

Here is the window sticker:
http://www.jeep.com/hostc/getWindowS...RJFCT0DC522984

What do you guys think? Generally I am pretty pleased getting invoice. $500 below seems like a pretty good deal. But being my first Jeep and am not sure what people are actually paying.

Thanks!

Re: What should I pay???

I aimed for 13.5% off MSRP and got really close. For you that would be $41Kish. Granted I negotiated a different model, but the same economics could apply. But also keep in mind that there's a lot of factors that play into it. Like in my instance going with a V8 allowed the dealer to apply more rebates, etc.

Did you get a 13 or 12? The only rebate I can find is a $500.

Re: What should I pay???

I would say that's a pretty sweet deal.

Most people are paying well over invoice, closer to the MSRP sort of thing. You're going to get a very vocal group of people her who will tell you all about the amazing deals they got because the dealer needed to make quotas, they've worked with the dealer for 753 years, or the dealer wanted to bang their wife, but the average person is paying just under MSRP.

Anyone who pays just under MSRP for any 2012-2013 WK2 is wasting thousands of dollars. Paying just under dealer invoice is pretty good. But its your money to waste as you like.

If you are paying anything over invoice in todays market you are a straight up sucker. These can be had all day for 1000 under invoice without trying.

Dealers hitting quotas is what makes $1000 under invoice an easy deal. Hitting the quota=$800/car.

GCs with V8 have an additional $1000 rebate

It was a '13 model. I would let the dealers worry about the rebates. Just tell them you want X price (whatever price you deem appropriate based on your research). And call (or better yet email) a lot of dealers in your area. Tell them what you're looking for in the car and your expectations on price. I'd even call areas a little outside of your normal radius -- the dealer I'm working with is about an hour north of me.

Here's what I did more specifically. I found a guy on a forum who purchased a similar car for 13% off MSRP. I then emailed a bunch of dealers through their websites. Told them I was interested in a car with xyz features. Then the flood of emails arrived. When I found a car I liked, I told the dealer I wanted to pay x price because a buddy got that deal. Dealer came back a day later with an offer close to the 13% off.

Again it will vary depending on quotas, rebates available, dealers margin, etc. But shoot for a price and get multiple quotes.

Re: What should I pay???

I think you do have to worry about the rebates and what you are elligible for. How else can you be an informed buyer? Not knowing if you qualify for Affiliate Rewards/Realtor/Lease Loyalty/Lease Conquest/ or any other incentive is only going to help the dealership roll those incentives into the sale price as opposed to taking them off of the bottom line. On a $44k invoice affiliate rewards is a total of $880 back to the dealer. That's something you would want to know.

Not knowing the dealership gets back $800/car for hitting their quota also will hinder negotiations. Having that info is a perfectly good reason to explain/justify why you are asking for the price you want.(asking for $1000 under invoice knowing they get back $800 if they hit quota) Negotiations are a two way street, salespeople are supposed to justify asking for profit and you as the buyer need to justify why you think the price should be less.

I completely agree. But again, I'm someone who cared enough to research the car extensively beforehand, register on forums about it, etc.

The reality is, most people don't do that, and pay for it. If they were selling every car at Invoice or less, they wouldn't be able to make any money (see pre-2008 performances from the domestics).

Point taken. And I agree knowing what rebates are available does help...but I was offering slightly different advise. To clarify, if you shoot really high, in my case several thousands of dollars below invoice and solicit multiple quotes, someone will likely bite. To meet your aggressive price they'll have to exhaust all rebates and use some of their margin to meet your price point. Ergo my comment to not lament over the rebates.

I understood exactly what you were saying. My point was if you know what you can buy a new GC for and you do qualify for AR or other incentives it should be used to lower the price, and not used to raise the actual sale price before rebates.
