What tools do you carry?

I've got a reasonably sized socket set with other assorted tools (adjust wrench, screwdrivers, etc.) , in a plastic case, approx 8 x 11 x 2 inches.

Its not too large by any means, but occasionally a pain in the butt when it slides around the cargo area. I resorted to adding a couple strips of Velcro to the case, which holds it very securely to the carpet. Difficulty w Velcro is that its more securely attached thanthe adhesive backed tape.

Would be perfect if it fit in the spare tire bay or under the rear seats. Too big for both.

So, what do you carry, and where do you keep it? Also, I sometimes wonder exactly what I think I'd actually hope to fix while on the road...what is your strategy for on-the-road repairs?

Thanks!

Re: What tools do you carry?

Get a plastic container from WalMart or your favorite store. Place behind rear seat.
Socket set, screw-driver both philips and slotted. first aid kit. flashlight. adhevsive tape. small shovel. small survival saw. compass. note pad and pencil. small pry bar.
The more you think of the more you will be prepared for any emergency.
Good luck and happy wheelin'.

Re: What tools do you carry?

take the tool set out of the plastic case (those things are ridiculously over-sized).

get some socket racks for the sockets.

get a tool bag, similar to the army canvas mechanic's bags (http://www.amazon.com/Mechanics-Tool.../dp/B000AA3ET4)

put the bag in the spare tire compartment.

i can't stand stuff on the trunk. here is what i carry: http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=25306

Re: What tools do you carry?

A lot of stuff in 20" AWP Tool bag (got it at Loews, similar to this one but 20": http://www.lowes.com/pd_351940-1492-1L-22418_0__?productId=3464260&Ntt=awp&Ns=p_product_p rice|1&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Dawp%26N s%3Dp_product_price%7C1&facetInfo=). This bag doesn't slide around but I also have Jeep rubber mat in the luggage compartment, so pretty much nothing slides around.

One tool I just ordered is 18-25" extendable breaking bar:
http://www.amazon.com/K-Tool-Interna.../dp/B003TSW2V0 - I recently had a flat tire and the bar that comes with the jack was useless - I couldn't get lug nuts to move, had to call for roadside assistance.

Another thing I just ordered and will carry in the tool bag is rubber mallet (a friend removed all lug nuts but wheel wouldn't budge. Called roadside assistance and all it took was 1 whack with the rubber mallet).

I also purchased some sockets with 1/2" drive size (metric and SAE) and torque wrench that I will keep at home (http://www.amazon.com/Titan-23150-Ad...9429663&sr=1-1)

I also carry some replacement fuses, air compressor, jumper cables and a bunch of other hand tools (pliers, screwdrivers, etc.)

Re: What tools do you carry?

Ahh, socket racks, canvas...that's perfect.

I did not think to stuff everything into a wrench-roll. That might just fin int eh spare tire compartment, or possibly under the rear seats if simply folded (vs rolled)

This one looks to be a good size: http://www.offroadtrailtools.com/sho...ct_detail&p=72

Thanks!

Re: What tools do you carry?

I have a handy LED light that came with my Jeep.
Seriously, I'm putting together something and am looking forward to the responses here.
