Ford Explorer was on the list for me, but as others have said, too many great standard featured on the GC.

Re: What was your 2nd choice?

I had two others I was close to getting:
- 2012 Toyota 4runner limited: Was a demo so could have gotten a deal. Dealer experience was not good. Also interior sucks compared to the GC. Looked at because they have great resale and are know for rock solid reliability. The new 2014s just came out and have a much nicer interior. Would have fought for my business a lot better.
- 2013 Cadillac SRX: I really liked it. It drove real nice and I felt most comfortable in it. It was at a higher cost though the Uconnect seems to match the CUE system that attracted me. Sometimes I do wonder if I should have went this way. Jeep should be better in snow though.

Audi S6 or and RS5 were high on the list... Also Considered a taurus sho, but seats sucked... Went with the '14 GC SRT and it is the best of all worlds for all weather conditions and less money than the Germans.

Re: What was your 2nd choice?

I have been looking for several years, but concluded about six months ago to achive my many wants, I would need to buy 3 vehicles and a 4-wheeler. That is, until I stumbled on the JGC with diesel. It appears to meet my needs for comfort, mileage, 4x4, towing capacity and flat towable. Time will tell how accurate I am as I am awaiting delivery. The Jeep also fulfills one of the items on my bucket list.

Re: What was your 2nd choice?

Mine was an X5 diesel which is what I got back in May once I realized the CRD would be delayed until about now. Just came to check if anyone had taken delivery yet and it seems like the CRD is still unobtanium. Would have loved a WK2 because it is a great vehicle to drive, but I am glad I did not wait or take the bait and switch trick to a V6 gasser.

Re: What was your 2nd choice?

Several cars.
Pilot, Pathfinder, FX35, Touareg
Audi A6 wagon, Passat, Ford Fusion

I have a soft spot for Audi especially having driven my friend's 2010 S4. But Audi are both overpriced and have a design flaw. It is not a major technology flaw because they do a great job at mitigating its effects on driving dynamics but it is a wrong philosophy: engine forward of the front axle. Which leads to a very narrow packaging in the engine compartment. For that reason alone, I would almost prefer an A6 with the 3.0 supercharged engine over the faster, smaller S4.
