what wheels and tires

Hi Everyone,

I am new here on the forum. I am a proud owner of a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, its a 4x4 but its all stock at the moment and the first thing that is gonna have to be changed is the wheels. I believe the stock wheels are 18" rims with 29" tires and I would like to put new rims on with these dimentions. The size is 245/75 with 17" rims.

I am wondering? Will the 17" wheel fit on the stock suspension Or do I need to get a lift done first? The new wheel I have found are for a 2014 wrangler. I would like to put new tires on but the rims look cool!

If anyone could give me some advice I would really apprecatite it

Re: what wheels and tires

From what I have read on this site regarding wrangler wheels, it really depends on the brake package you have. those with the HD brakes say the wheels will not fit and those without the HD brakes say they will. Some say they fit with spacers, some say they won't fit at all. I am still unclear regarding the wheels. I too was looking for 2013 Rubicon wheels when I bought my jeep in January but since I couldn't find a definitive answer I just bought new tires for my 18" stockers.

Now, for tires, I highly recommend the Duratracs. I have them in the stock size (265/60 R18) and they are awesome! I've done a little light offroading, drove to montreal and back from DC during the snow storms over President's day weekend and I had 0 issues. For a bigger tire size you will probably need to do the leveling kit or full lift (2.5" I believe is what I see available).

Personal note: I had a rubicon for a few years before trading in on the WK2. I was just like you, I just bought the Jeep in January and couldn't wait to do a lift and tires and front bumper with winch and plasti-dip all the things, etc. but over time and after just replacing the stock tires with something better I found that I am more than happy with how the jeep performs now and ride quality was minimally affected by the tire change.

I appreciate the feedback. The biggest problem is the stock wheels are totally off color and don't fit the car at all so really would like to get rims that fit even the same size. Can you put bigger tires on and do the lift later?

From what I have read here, you can do a little bit bigger tire than stock but you could have some rubbing issues depending on the size and width when turning the wheels.

I think I have seen some people use 265/65 R18 without issues and maybe a little bigger.

I like using the tire-size-conversion . com site to compare different tire sizes. I looked at what was the stock size measurements and then picked a tire based on price from tirerack. For me, I was dead set on the duratrac tires and the stock size was cheaper than anything a little bigger so I went with that. Because of the tread design they actually appear larger and more rugged than any set of stock all-seasons, even in stock size.
