Well, if you price a vehicle at Jeep.com, they list the "Selling Price" as the amount left after trade and down payment.

I don't know what the heck happened with BMW. They were expensive before, but a 2012 equipped just like my wife's 2010 would be $8-10k more. Crazy.

Re: When did a V6 Jeep Grand Cherokee become worth $50k?

Same thing happened to Acura. The TL used to be a bit cheaper alternate to the Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, Audi...now it's more.

I have no problem with the 2014 Jeep bumping up its MSRP...new transmission, headlights, navigation, etc. You want fun things, you pay for them.

If the 8 speed transmission shaves .5 seconds off of the V6's 0-60...how much would someone have spent on aftermarket parts/gimmicks to duplicate it? $250 on intake, $500 on exhaust...etc..

In my personal experience the GC is carrying quite a strong trade value.

50K WKII is better choice. At least for me.
Range Rovers have always been an amazing product (when they run). The materials they use are top notch, the styling is elegant and timeless, and the features you can get in them are amazing. That nav system that displays different things to driver and passengers for instance, totally insanely awesome genius. Want an SUV that will take you to the slopes in style no matter what the weather is like, then literally massage you on the way back after you're sore from falling (assuming you suck as skiing like myself), the RR does it. And you can actually get it to massage the back seats too.

The $100k+ price tag is a side effect of their use of expensive materials, and offering options that are flat out amazing.

Is the new RR better than my Jeep? Heck yes. Is it 2x better? Probably not, but it depends how deep your pockets are really. To someone that has "wealth" rather than "income", it could be worth the extra $50k+ to be massaged by the seats and have leather on the door handles and suede on the roof.

I mean, heck, people spend $300k or more to own Ferraris that they don't drive. At least in a $250k Range Rover you can drive it around wherever (be driven driven around in it).

This is very correct. A lot of Audis and BMWs and MBs have utterly pathetic residuals, because they're all leases. You take a bath on a base model 3-series,C-Class, or A4 in residuals.

Their SUVs tend to be a little better, but residual % wise they still get hammered. You can buy some damn nice X5s and MLs that were $70-80k when new for like $35k after 3 years.

Residuals on leases have more to do with the lease contract than the actual car value. If you pay too much up front and over three years your residual is low.

The $100k+ price tag is actually because you're pre-paying for all the repairs and time in the shop you will be enduring with your new RR.

That was brilliant of RR to think ahead like that.

"The most awarded SUV ever" comes with a price. Even so, it's less than it's real competition. It's even less than a Ford.

It's mostly untrue. The euro cars don't do much better, if at all for resale value.
