When do we get real news?

Sorry if I'm sounding ignorant about this....I'm new to the idea of buying a Jeep.

Wife and I are pretty much sold on the Overland or Overland summit. The only thing we wish it had was some sort of third row, even a simple floor mounted one for little kids. An aftermarket solution could be employed.

BUT.....we're inclined to wait for more news on the diesel engine, transmission changes and so. So, for all of you experienced Jeep folk:

1) When will we hear more about the diesel option?

2) Is there any chance that engine will come sooner than 2013?

3) When does Jeep typically make it's next-year model plans available and when is it possible to order?

I know no one has a hard fast answer, but they must have a pattern over the years. We're anxious to buy. We might even just grab a Hemi afterall, but we want to know what's next for the Grand Cherokee before pulling the trigger either way.

Thanks!

Hang tight CaptRB I am in same position except for 3rd row seating. Very interested in diesel model should be here by years end if I figured rite do not know if it will be available rite away. I looked at the VW Touareg nice truck but i feel its a expense to maintain. Hoping JGC isnt all that bad with maintenance and repairs. Maybe some other members can add a little advice between the 2 vehicles Good luck to you Capt with your decision Roadmaster45 NY

Re: When do we get real news?

Hey CaptR8...

Jeep actually "officially confirmed" the Diesel option for 2013 today (or yesterday). So it is definately coming.

No it won't come any earlier than 2013 models. However, 2013 means the model year, not the actual year of 2013 -- so fall 2012.

I think order banks usually open around June or July, and then delivery starts around August or September?

Dealers probably won't start getting them until shortly after that... October or so.

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those dates are pretty accurate.

Re: When do we get real news?

You could look at the Dodge Durango if you want a third row. They are made at the same plant and have many similarities.

What you state is true. It will be a V6 diesel.

Re: When do we get real news?

Suggesting the Durango for it's 3rd row is like suggesting a minivan! ;-)
95% of the Grand Cherokee buyers would be well served with various other SUV's as they don't really need it's abilities. We are in the 5% with a road that can be treacherous without a seriously good 4x4 system. The Durango is not up to it; not even close.

So we NEED the Jeep. The 3rd row is something we use once or twice a year. We can live without it, but it would have been nice. We'll look into an aftermarket solution if need be.

Thanks!
