Re: When people ask you the price you paid how do you react?

I guess I'm not offended by that question with respect to a vehicle - if it was about a girlfriend, well, then I would be offended! LOL

I just say it lists for just a little under $49K and I got if for about 10% off. No biggie - the MSRP is available everywhere anyway. I don't tell them I paid cash though...unless they ask how much are the monthly payments (which I would have no idea what that would have been).

If it's one of my friends who are fellow car nuts or someone looking to buy one and wants to get an idea of what you can get off sticker, I'll let them know.

Puts it right back on them, and if they have a reason that makes sense, I give them a straight answer. If they are just being nosey I will change the subject.
Have to agree with this tactic. If they are genuinely interested in buying I tell them, I always like people to get a starting point for their deal.

For me at the moment, I'm after a '14 GC and would love to know what the going price is in Australia ie RRP-7% etc. Although I know its probaby a bit too early for pricing?

I just tell them. Most think it's reasonable considering all the goodies. If they don't, they're usually a Toyota fan so I tell them to try and find a new Prado with equivalent features for anything close to what I paid.

I also don't care if people know how much I earn. I'm a government worker so it's public knowledge anyway.

What he said.

I never really understood people being so secretive about how much they earn though. Is it the fear of being robbed, or the fear of being judged and/or pitied? Or am I missing the point entirely?

People may complain that I earn more than them, but when they go to their workplace each day they don't have to worry whether they're going to get punched, spat on, stabbed or shot at any moment. I never know what's behind the next corner or the next door, and I go to the places, and deal with the things, that no one else will. I've seen and done things no 21 year old should have to see or do, so at the end of the shift, I'll get in my $60,000 Jeep and drive my ass home in comfort, and I don't give a damn what anyone thinks.

How did you get the price of a 3.6L WK2 up to 60G? Bullet proof doors?

That probably explains it: import and VAT.
