Here's another fun one you can file under "nowhere else but South Florida".

I know a guy who doesn't stop for red lights. Ever. If the light is red and there's not cars stopped already, he goes through. He "usually" looks to make sure it's clear, but you never know with this guy.

His rationale? "I have enough money, I basically just pay for the right to run them when they mail me tickets or my attorney makes them go away". So if you're ever near Boca Raton and see some sort of luxury car (he traded his Bentley on a Rolls Royce last I heard) coming up to a red light, you'd probably best double check that they do in fact stop.

If you hang around with people similar to you...they could all probably afford the vehicle anyways. Why not tell them?

Oddly, I saw a Rolls driver do EXACTLY that in South Beach about a month ago. It was on either 15th or 16th Streets West of Washington Ave. I kid you not...

Re: When people ask you the price you paid how do you react?

This is my 5th Jeep. No one ever asked me the question until I bought my SRT8. At the time I thought if you don't know me well enough to borrow my dog, my gun, or my girl then your must be socially inept if you're asking. I came to the conclusion that most people who see a WK expect you to list an outrageous figure. In my married life we had a GL450, a Denali, and an Escalade hybrid. Not my choices FYI, but all very quality vehicles nonetheless. I would pit my Overland against any SUV on the market and ask an objective observer to explain to me how the Jeep is inferior in any category. We all know they aren't. So, if some misguided soul asks you the question, simply replying "less than you think and I got a family out it" seems to me to be the best answer.

Re: When people ask you the price you paid how do you react?

If the person is just being nosey, I ask them what they paid for their vehicle.

But if someone is in the market for a JGC, I will tell them an approximate price, unless it's a good friend and then I'll show the bill of sale.

I recently just left Coral Springs/Fort Lauderdale area for this exact reason. I grew up in NY, I dont care what people say about us NYers but atleast we have common courtesy and respect until you you d ont deserve it atleast! SoFla is the worst place I have ever lived, 10yrs I was there, had a great time lots of fun met some cool people but for the most part made me miss NY and thats why Im back. I dont come from a wealthy family but when I went to high school Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, I have never seen such stuck up spoiled kids in my life, yet they hop out of a new 535i dressing like thugs acting like they are hard and from the streets like its glamorous lifestyle. It just goes to show no one is their selfs just an image! Sorry for the rant but wanted to chime in on how horrible SoFla is!

I also have a Summit.....and with a straight face I say 1 million dollars

actually who cares......so easy to look up the price of any vehicle these days.....big whoop.

Wow on the original message about the guy, but WOW, WOW if this is the guy that he's talking about. I guess if he dies or kills someone when he runs that red light then the lawyer or all the money in the world won't bring the person back.

I really don't think it matters, anyone can lookup what a summit costs and get a rough idea of what you paid for it. This does not tell them how much you make and really if they know what you do they could probably come up with a good idea of what that is also. I have many people ask what I paid for mine and I just tell them what I paid, I don't really care what they think. I have had people ask what I make a year and in most cases I don't mind telling them that either. My thing is who cares what they know or think. Its like when someone get offended because someone asks how old they are. To me getting offended by that is the stupidest thing in the world. So just tell them what you paid and if have an extra paycheck stub laying around show them that also.
