Question Where did it come from?

Hello,

I am the proud owner for a 2014 JGC Summit Diesel, Peep Auburn Perlcoat. I couldn't be happier with the it.

Yesterday while admiring my new baby I started looking around and found the oddest "spare" part. Under the drivers seat was the attached part painted the same color as the body. It has some scratches down the upper half on the outer edge.

Anyone have any clue as to what it is and where it belongs?

And for those that might be interested.. I managed to get Chrysler to send me the full set of manuals. Here they are, not including the small one that actually did come with the truck.

Re: Where did it come from?

Hmmmm.....trying to get a scale of this for size. It looks small next to your phone headset cord. No part number? Perhaps it is a click that is used to hold the vehicle while it is being painted and gets tossed out?

Re: Where did it come from?

it is pretty small, it is about 2.5 inches long and 2.5 inches wide at end of the tabs. The only numbers that I see are 40328 stamped on the side.

Could be that it holds something during painting. Just an odd extra to find under the seat.

Re: Where did it come from?

I checked under my drivers seat and saw nothing under there that is even painted anything other than black. It looks like the small tabs on each side would be used to push together and slide into two slots to hold something. But if it's the same color as the body it must be something that would possibly be seen. Maybe something in the engine area. Take it to the dealer one day see what they say or think. Whatever you do keep it; it may just be one of a kind. lol

Re: Where did it come from?

That's the Finnegan Pin. It is designed to tie all the components of the vehicle together. Under no circumstances should it be removed from under the seat.

The only thing I can say is, "Sorry for your loss"

On the manuals, what phone number or email did you use to request all the manuals?

877-426-5337 That is the main customer care number. Gave them my VIN, they verified my address and options (in my case the 8.4AN radio, and Diesel) sent those two manuals and warranty information book. Total call time 5 minutes, and I received them in about a week.

Re: Where did it come from?

I will be keeping it. Just one of those nagging things.. I can't stand extra parts.

Ask your dealer - it could also be something that holds something down during shipping before dealer prep.

Re: Where did it come from?

It's the temporary door striker used before the permanent door strikers are installed.

If I were you, I'd keep it along with anything else you may have laying around from JNAP. Sheets of paper, plastic, etc.

Very cool. Now that I know what it does/did its size, shape and color make perfect sense. I will be stored in a safe place

Thanks!
