I'm sure this sounds bad but it's not what you think. I want to switch gauge clusters in my 2011 but need to know if it will affect my mileage and if so how does one get it set to what it needs to be?
Some posts indicate the mileage is in the ECU which would be perfect but other posts suggest its in the cluster and completely separate from the ECU.
JJ, I do not know the answer but it is an interesting question. A Google search shows this Minnesota outfit:Speedometer Repair Guy
His site indicates he will know the answer. If you contact him, please post his response.
I know on a previous late model it was stored in the cluster and the dealer had to program the new cluster to the VIN before it would work and put in the mileage.
The BCM is the central place it is stored. However it is also stored elsewhere and the dealer has to do some work to sync all the places as a security measure. It's not a plug and play job.
Maybe it is stored in two different places so one cannot just swap it and show up lower mileage. I would like to know this as well... just for information purposes.
I checked my mileage, I pulled my cluster and went for a 5 mile drive then put it back in and the mileage was the same it was before I pulled the cluster.
I can't seem to find a second cluster so I'm just going to modify my own but I'm fairly certain the computer doesn't have anything to do with it.
