Hi guys-
I currently have an '08 Overland and I would go for another Overland in the 2011/WK2.
My 4WD concerns for the WK2 are:
1. It has "taller" rear axle gearing-my WK 3.73 to the WK2 3.47
2. This 2011 Overland edition is more than 300 lbs. heavier
3. The torque of the slightly newer Hemi is about the same as my '08
4. The transmission is the same as the WK-not changed/improved, but they say help is on the way from ZF.
5. The front ELSD is gone.
6. I am curious about the impact using the ABS to maintain traction will have on brake wear, but the lower wheel speed of "careful" offroading probably means that the there is a small impact.
7. I know the value of wheel articulation offroad and I note that Jeep is not focusing on that issue with the 2011 roll out. I think the air supspension of Quadra Lift system provides progressively less wheel articulation as you raise the ride height. I read one review that said in full extension the Quadra Lift is very stiff allowing almost no wheel articulation. However I think it is meant for temporary use, not all day four wheeling.
So in terms of off road capability for previous owners (of WJs and WKs) Jeep engineers have changed their approach and back tracked on past definitions of capability somewhat. For first time buyers not hung up on such issues I think this Jeep GC will be a pure home run. I love the evolved look inside and out. There is a load of new tech that raises the bar on safety and convenience and I can now put my friends in the back seat rather than children or small people only. Also the new Overland interior is really great and a major step up.
I'll wait until the promised packages are available so I can get a "fully" loaded WK2 Overland. No need to rush into a partially loaded Overland. It's nice to know that Jeep is still trying to retain buyers like me even though I must be part of a dimishing group. My last thought is that 5200+ lbs is a burden on every aspect of the drive train, brakes and suspension and is not in keeping with past Jeep targets, offroading or on roading, and fuel consumption. Hopefully this can be dealt with over time.
So given that all of Detroit suffered a massive heart attack, I am pleased that Chrysler is back with a new commitment to quality engineering and manufacturing. My brand loyalty is intact.

The title asks for everyone to participate, but there's no "Will Not Buy" option.
I bought my WK 'cause with a 4" lift, 34" tires and armor it can wheel on the tougher trails in Colorado and Utah while still being quite nice as a daily driver. The WK2 is too big and too limited in off-road capabilites for my uses. If my WK was wrecked, I would purchase a used WK1 or if Jeep ever comes out with a Wrangler with a real engine in it, I'd seriously consider a 4 door Wrangler.
Voted for Overland 4x4 v8 the one I likely will buy though Limited 4x4 v8 is not out of my consideration... need to weigh bit more with info about both of them.
I am rather surprised that 56 out of 136 voted for Overland 4x4 v8... mere of wish thinking or money no issue for most of them, I wonder? lol
Doh! Should have worn my glasses this morning. Meant to vote for V6 4x4 Overland and not 4x2.
Still undecided really between V6 and V8 HEMI though. If only they could make the HEMI not so touchy on the very first part of the gas pedal ... at least that's how it was in the 2011 GC I test drove. Being able to go up to 500 mi in the V6 on one tank of gas sounds pretty nice too.
Limited 4x4 V8 for me- luxury pkg and trailer towing. Might go with the green or white color maybe even mineral gray, frost beige seats. I just don't think that quada lift will age well at all. Seems like it will be troublesome after the warranty is over. An air suspension failure could disable the vehicle altogether and you would either be stuck with a decision to invest a great deal of $$ to fix the thing which could include sensors, air lines etc, air bladders etc. Or there may be a way to convert it to a fixed height suspension. Either way the quad lift seems great when the vehicle is new or newer but I feel due to its complexity it will be a weak link for this Jeep. IMO anyways. Will be orderlin early next year when my Edge lease expires. By then hopefully the chrome wheels and blind spot system will be available.
you should do more research on the quadra-lift suspension. In fact...its closed type system...the first used on a vehicle like this. There are very few parts to fail like other open type systems. Being a closed type system....impurities arent brought into the system like with open type system. This should be one of the more reliable air type systems. The air bags are also pr0tected by springs(air springs) All of the componets are very well protected.
hef, you're right. i priced both and the overland came out cheaper when it was fully loaded as compared to a limited with the stitched dash, vented seats, power liftgate, ect...
overland also has that ring to its name when you say it....doesnt it? isnt that worth something?
having said that, man i love that limited in your picture treker. sweet ride. people in your area are jealous of it i bet.
voted for Overland 4x4 V8 as I have one on order. Seems Overland is the popular choice here, but I wonder what the real world split is between the trim levels?
That 9% was from production figures, not the poll results. I think you'll find that the "enthusiasts" are those that will actually take the Jeeps off-road, and are looking for capabilities, not refinements.
What I meant was that the poll is showing that around 50% of "buyers" would buy an overland. Simply nowhere near reflective of real-world results. And I was not referring to off roaders or otherwise, by enthusiasts as in someone willing to take the time to post to this forum or research the car somewhere else other than edmunds or jeep.com.
I was not refuting your 9% figure. Making a comment on poll results.
Being aware of the price issue & I appreciate your expertise on the closed vs open system. Something about that air ride suspension just makes me think it will sooner or later be trouble. It's just my opinion and like I said I do appreciate your knowledge. I would love to go with the Overland but I guess I just need to know that it's a proven system especially on this application. Time will tell.
And that's a legitimate question with something new to a vehicle line. Having been around Jeeps for quite awhile now, I know there's issues with systems when they are introduced, and I too worry about the longevity of this suspension.
