Hey JG... I want y'all's thoughts on something. I'm going to be buying a 2014 GC. An I'm totally stuck on which I want.

Summit Diesel vs SRT.

Silly choice eh? I want the utility of the diesel. Bit when I test drive the SRT in white. And heard that 6.4 growl. Well the Only thing ive driven that was almost as sexy was a GTR. The launch control was climatic...

I suppose it comes down to... 90% o my driving will be on road. And for that remaining 10% I'm not going bouldering. However, if I had the diesel I may get a little more aggressive.

The real solution here is I need. NEED both. But, well, that's just impractical.

Thoughts? Sorry if I should have posted this in the SRT forum but I know what those folks are gonna say.

If you need to do any off-roading, don't go for the SRT. I bought an Overland instead of an SRT because I want to go off-road. However, I (and at least 1 other on JG) am thinking about buying an SRT in addition to the Overland (and maybe replacing the Overland with a Wrangler Rubicon 10A, or possibly just buying a Rubicon 10A as well). Another idea, if you need to go off-road, would be to buy an SRT and also buy a Wrangler for the times you need to go off-road. The Wranglers are cheaper than the GC's, and can be made pretty nice (leather, heated seats, navigation) for well under $40,000, or you could pay $20,000-$25,000 for a pretty basic one if that suits your needs.

I'm sure you "need" both. I agree with ENFORCER, test drive a 5.7L HEMI too. Sure, it isn't as fast as the SRT and doesn't sound quite as good, but it is still pretty fast and sounds very good (especially with a CAI). AND, you still get to keep the off-road ability. I really wish that the 6.4L was offered in the Overland and Summit. I would buy it for sure, even if it was a $5,000 or $6,000 option.

Why not just get a Overland Hemi and have the best of both worlds.
Personally I will be getting a SRT next, as I never go offroading.

Thank you all for the input. In playing around on my phone, building pricing etc. ill have to search the forums to be sure but there's a few features that aren't showing up on the overland that I want to select. HK audio system, qd2.

Checked the stats between the ecodiesel and the 5.7. The performance difference in small compared to the efficiency (on paper). Not sure it's enough to turn me off of the diesel.

The only thing holding me back from ordering one as soon as possible is having not test driven it yet.

This is my first BIG new car purchase other than the patriot back in 09 when I first began my career. Now, fortune had been smiling on me and I'm just really glad that the hardest decision in my life right now is which $50k jeep to buy!

Glad y'all are here to help.

You can get QDII on the Overland (I have it), however you cannot get the HK system. The HK system almost pushed me over the edge to the Summit, but I decided the system on the Overland is plenty good and it was not worth sacrificing the Overland's looks (which I personally like better than the Summit's looks). Try out both systems, you might find you don't need the HK system (or the opposite). If you like the Summit's looks better, go for it! Either way, you will end up with an incredible vehicle and will not be disappointed.

Thanks for the nod JGCO. Adding all I want to the overland gets the price point close enough to the summit that I figure it's worth the extra $$ for the audio and ALL that chrome. My how it shines.

The only feature the overland has that I really wish I could have on the summit is the indigo leather. Saw an overland on the lot with it. Looked sharp.

Now I'm down to color. Originally wanted red. But in person it didn't pop as much as I wanted. So I'm down to the sleek looking black. Or clean looking white.
