Welcome to Jeep Garage. Hang around, it's a great community of Jeep enthusiasts.
Feh, real men drive ZJs.
Their wives make them buy WK2's, or better yet buy it for them.

I have a May 13 build 2014, and other than the dealer finding a tightening a very poorly secured ground and me then going over every fastener on the thing, it has been trouble free.

There was something in the early ?14s? with front axles you might want to dig around for or hopefully someone will recall.

I'd definitely go for the 8 speed. Same transmission used in high powered euro sedans, not the Mopar built licensed version that has had its share of features.

Make friends with a dealer and get a good prepurchase inspection to include
oil usage, air suspension health [if you go that route, which I advise] and prior owner maintenance. Some people just don't give a rat about their vehicles and some make sure they get every bit of preventative care needed.

Enjoy.

Odd question but opinions on purchasing Jeeps that were previously rentals? They usually have low mileage and in theory, should be consistently maintained in order to keep them on the road.

Or what about early built 2014s (prior Sept 2013) but with 1 owner 60k+ miles?

Re: Which WK2 to avoid if any? heard rumors...

I looked and looked and looked for months before pulling the trigger.

I originally started looking for a 2014 Sierra Denali. Coming from a TBSS, I wanted to stay GM if I could...but nothing I wanted would fit in my garage. So then I decided to start looking for a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Before picking up the TBSS, I had been looking at a SRT8. This was back in 2007.

I went what through must have been 1000 different listings trying to ID what trim I wanted vs what I wanted to pay. Because of the trans change in 14, and having previously polished out a couple from that year, 14 was the year I wanted. I chose the Summit in the end because I wanted to Air stuff in the suspension and also the big stereo. Leather wrapped dash and cooled seats were also a must, and I understand some of that is available on the Overland. For me, the Summit fit best.
