Re: Who changes your oil?

Not everyone tosses a car after 5 years. People are keeping there vehicles longer nowadays. Why not do your best to take care of something and make sure it is going to last, people spend all the time and money on expensive wax, clear bras and $200 floor mats to protect the vehicle, why not take that same initiative with the engine so it doesn't leave your family stranded on the side of the road.

Its not for everyone, I have seen WK2's already on the road completely trashed. Its a pride thing for some people to take care of there possessions.

Re: Who changes your oil?

I've had bad experiences having others change my oil. Walmart stripped out the oil plug on my Civic years ago, then when I bought my Mustang, on the second free oil change the dealer bent my hood. The Audi dealer constantly broke plastic things in the engine bay and didn't replace them.

That being said, I will take advantage of the free oil changes we received, though I will be marking the filter with a marker before I take it in and checking the oil immediately after. After that, who knows, I might change it myself as I do my other two cars now.

My Jeep did come with two paint blemishes that neither the factory, nor the dealer picked up on, that I spotted in 30 seconds upon delivery.

Re: Who changes your oil?

a) That's what an oil pressure gauge (in the EVIC) is for.
b) Just got the paper for free oil changes so might as well let them do it.
c) if dealer does it then there is no question about the warrenty
d) Always change my own oil in others but "new" car before the Jeep was a '92.

Re: Who changes your oil?

Changing your own oil will not void your warranty! Just keep a log of the type/brand and date you changed it along with the mileage.

Re: Who changes your oil?

I use a local Indy for my service and go with Mobil 1.

I agree with earlier posts, the benefits of using synthetic oil would be offset if this is a short-term ownership. With a trade-in, the dealership will not care if records are kept or if a better brand of oil/filter has been used. Different story if long-term ownership or private sale.

I will be selling my WK2 Overland within the next 6-8 months and most likely will be using it as a trade-in. I just had the oil changed with Mobil 1. Money wasted, yes. But I do lean toward taking care of my possessions. I even use Mobil 1 in my garden tractor. In the end there will be both sides to the debate of mineral vs. syn oil. There is no harm except for spending a few more $$$.

Re: Who changes your oil?

There is no harm in using synthetic, I use it myself in my lawnmower, motorcycle, and chevy truck. Funny thing is that my company vehicles get the cheapest oil and filters out there, whatever is on contract, and all of our vehicles from all makes go to atleast 200k miles before we get rid of them and we have never had engine problems! Can't say the same for trannys, transfer cases, etc.

Re: Who changes your oil?

I've never had a problem getting 200k+ miles out of a car using dino.
