Re: Who has driven both V6 & V8 WK2's

Another for the V6 fans......

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Driving Impressions, Performance, Handling and Safety: New Car Test Drive

They make it pretty clear the Hemi isn't better for them as well.

****Funny note. I just checked Wards top ten engines for 2012, they have the 3.6 Pentastar as #6, then skip the 5.7 Hemi, and in eighth they have the 6.4 liter Hemi. So apparently they don't think the 5.7 Hemi is better either.

I agree 100%. They are both good engines. Each better than the other in its own way.

Nothing wrong with a V8 owner being set in their ways. What's wrong is when someone (V8 or V6 owner) presents their opinion as fact and /or comes off as being better because of their engine choice.

I agree makes no sense. A Jeep is a nice vehicle all around from the Laredo up, beautiful on the outside and on the inside.

The problem is misleading people because you own the V6 and have a complex about it.

The V6 is not better in ANY way accept for MPG. That's it.

Two hours ago some nut in a Nissan Titan started drifting towards me and there was a bloody Mini on my tail. This was the second time the Hemi pulled me clear with ease and I mean FAST. The Hemi's power is there when you need it.

Who cares which is higher end? All I care about is which one if more capable in any imaginable scenario.

The only complex I see is your story of your ride on the mule into Damascus. Amen brother, tell it on the mountain! But the fact is the Hemi is just an option for a different set of needs. It doesn't make it any better. Just like air suspension isn't better than coil over springs, it's just an option for those who want it. The great debate over the 730N verses the 430 nav radio options. The 730 is listed as the upgrade radio, yet alot of people don't like it, so it's not better for them. I know this may come as a real surprise to you, but some people want a stripped down V6 WK2 to use as a work truck to bus 3 or 4 people to a wooded jobsite. They need the best gas mileage, and cloth seats with no frills on it other than 4 wheel drive. SO the entry level WK2 has just become a BETTER choice than an Overland or an SRT8. That's really my point here.
I'm perfectly happy with the decision I made. And there are alot of other people who share the road with me that should be very happy I don't have alot more HP also... I have to set limits or I'm going to jail, so the V6 is BETTER for me. I race cars so I don't need that extra feeling of power you seem to be intoxicated with. After dropping 1/4 miles in under 7 seconds, any attempt to impress me with a 5.7 Hemi just isn't going to get much of a rise. Everyone wants more hp and torque. Even Hemi owners wish thier V8's put down more respectable performance numbers for what it is. It has to be embarrassing to get beat by a Toyota Rav 4 or a Kia with the huge V8 motor rumbling under the hood. The SRT8 guys always talking about a bigger supercharger or tuning in more speed and power. Better is subjective and can mean different things under different parameters. Why can't you just get off your power ego and see that fact?

Why is there hatred toward one engine or another and especially to our fellow Jeep brethren?

It's good you mentioned that it depends upon what you want to tow...that's what kicked me into the V8 since my application is a small horse trailer and pulling live weight is different than hauling static loads. I'll be right around 5K or slightly more with both horses loaded, so for safety, the heavier setup was the right choice for both power and not being right at the limit of documented towing capacity. Empty, that trailer almost feels like it isn't even there, not unlike my 5'x8' utility trailer...

Well, here is Wards 10 Best Engines from 2009, the 5.7L Hemi.

Mopar's Infamous Hemi - Hemi and Mopar News

Let's face it, it you want better gas mileage get the V6. From a performance perspective the Hemi outperforms the V6 in all regards. It's your choice and I guess there is no right and wrong. It's whatever you are looking for.
