Re: Why are peopel complaining about wait times?

These delays are nothing new with regards to Jeep it seems.

My dad mentionned to me today that back in 1988 he ordered an 1988 XJ Limited. After waiting 4 months and no XJ, he cancelled the order and bought an XJ Wagoneer Limited that was available on the lot.

2 decades later and Jeep still suffers from delay issues...hmmm...

Re: Why are peopel complaining about wait times?

For me, it wasn't the wait time (19 weeks - not that I was counting). My concern was the lack of communication regarding the build status between Chrysler and the dealer during that time. Twice during the 19 weeks my Jeep fell into a black hole for a week at a time where no one seemed to know the status. I could handle the wait, but was upset that both the dealer and me couldn't find out the build or delivery status. IMO, not good customer service.

Believe me guys... if you ordered a brand new model stereo for $1000 from Amazon and it showed up 1-2 months after the "expected delivery date" you would be pissed. Multiply that times 50.

Depends on how reliable that expected date was to begin with. When I first placed my order on July 6, 2010, a week later I was in D1 status with an expected delivery date of the first week in August. The dealer said that wasn't likely to happen, and based on the information here (no Overland builds until mid-Aug), I knew it was bogus too.

Expected delivery dates should be viewed with only the most extreme suspicion until the vehicle has actually been built. I class doing otherwise in the category of a dealer who is not being truthful or a buyer who is just uneducated about such things.

Re: Why are peopel complaining about wait times?

I pretty much agree with what everyone is saying above. Yeah its kind of bad to be complaining about wait times when everyone here was 100% informed of this wait time prior to placing the order. However, I agree with Jpjr above in that how is it they arent able to provide more information to the customer. With a 40K+ purchase telling me my car has been sitting in some friggin train yard for 3 weeks 10 miles from the dealership is a joke. Or sitting in D status for 3 months without an explanation of why.
I cancelled my order but it wasnt about the wait time. It was more or less the fact that because of this wait time I had plenty of time to re-think my decision of purchasing this jeep and I finally decided against it. Its unfortunate that there are these wait times because regardless if people know about how long it takes, Chrysler is losing sales because of it.

I used to give the dealer/manufacturer the benefit of the doubt on stuff like this. Then one day I realized I am not buying a Ferrari I am buying a mass produced dime-a-dozen Jeep that gets built in less than a day (assuming parts are there). In this case, you should be able to order one and receive it within a reasonable period of time. If you don't, you can walk... or do Chrysler a favor... stay and complain.

Re: Why are people complaining about wait times?

As I said on another thread it depends on the model, if you ordered factory options and what is being built. My Limited took 4 weeks as a "sold" car with no factory options. My name was on the window sticker. It was built before 70th anniversary or Summit editions were being ordered and before new Durango advertising.

Re: Why are people complaining about wait times?

I don't think its the waiting that bothers most people... it is the lack of information and misniformation, not to mention those who ordered early and ended up getting things they didn't order (e.g. radio debacle). Personally, it is the way the dealers and Chrysler operate, not the product, that had me looking for different vehicle and cancelling my order.

No argument. I'm just saying that the current state of affairs is that the "expected delivery date" is pure fiction, and depending on it shows a lack of understanding of that fact.

I do agree that Jeep should be more than able to project things much more accurately. I can understand a greater lead time if things are more popular than they expected (given the vagaries of just in time inventory management, they can't just pop out another couple hundred Overlands to use one example... they don't have a warehouse full of Quadra-Lift systems) due to supplier issues. But at some point they need to ramp things up at the supplier level, and it appears that they have not been doing so. It takes time to get things lined up, but they've been behind the situation for months now, with no sign of that changing.

Re: Why are people complaining about wait times?

I understand your point. My recent experience was actually the quality of the dealer, not Chrysler. I shopped 3 dealers. 2 would discount their inventory vehicles, but not an ordered vehicle. The one I ordered from had no problem with my order request, gave me a good price, was knowledgable and hit all the marks.

Re: Why are people complaining about wait times?

This is why I'm complaining. My Jeep's in a "black hole of knowledge" less than two hours away from me. Maybe I care about getting a Jeep too much or I'm too excited. For some reason I thought that was why we were all here on this forum. I'M IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION! Nah, I just want my Jeep.
