Why are people complaining about wait times?

I was told that when ordering a jeep it would take 14-16 weeks.

Either people are just being super impatient or they have unrealistic expectations of how long it takes to have a car built. I just can't see the logic in canceling an order after waiting 10-12 weeks and than start the process over at some other dealership.

It is pretty simple. Buy off a lot or wait 4 months. It's always been this way and always will. Yes some people get lucky and have their cars built much quicker than this, but I suspect that they just got the same car that someone else canceled.

Hah I always smile when I see people posting here about waiting so long they cancel an order.

"...but I want my car like yesterday!"

Cry about it.

Totally agree! Enough with the hissy fits. Be patient, you will eventually get your WK2 and you'll love it.

Re: Why are peopel complaining about wait times?

i love how somebody can spend $50,000 on a car and not be entitled to complain if it's late.

not worth crying over either way guys. we are lucky to have order tracking here, and i can tell you as someone waiting on my truck i don't enjoy watching it sit on a rail car while the delivery date gets pushed back day after day.

am i going to cancel my order? absolutely not. am i getting impatient? hell yes!

please humor all of us and let people be excited and/or emotional about such a significant purchase.

Re: Why are peopel complaining about wait times?

I waited right around 95 days for mine and was told 3-4 months. Worth the wait 100% - Have to remember all message boards are 40% people who are here to learn and share things and 60% people who were looking for a public place to vent frustration over whatever problem they are having.

Re: Why are peopel complaining about wait times?

Let's see.......so it takes over two months to build the thing...OK, fine, I can understand that especially in a new model year with late availabilities.

But after it is built and released by the plant it takes 2-3 weeks to get it to you (mind you it is a SOLD order) seems ridiculous....then you find out there is a shortage of railcars....they had over two months of planning knowing EXACTLY where these vehicles are going and they didn't plan to have railcar space for them??? How can that be? I've owned businesses and there is no way I would accept that from my business. So yes, I will complain about that.

You missed the 3rd & 4th options. Some of us were quoted incorrect lead times from the dealer or the Jeep when on restriction for some parts shortage.

In my case, when I ordered my overland, I was told by the dealer would have it by early November, keep in mind this was an order that was placed on July 19th. On Dec 17th I bailed on the order and bought a different one off the lot and on Jan 21st my order finally was delivered to the dealer. 3 months AFTER the promosed delivery date.

Not all of it is impatience.

Re: Why are peopel complaining about wait times?

I think most of the frustration is seeing other Jeep's that were ordered after theirs being built before they are. I am ok with the wait but don't want to get my 2011 a month before the 2012's come out like I did with my SRT8 back in 2006 when it sat in the rail yard for 2 months before I complained and got someone to get it shipped.

Re: Why are peopel complaining about wait times?

Also many people who order a Jeep didn't order anything special. In fact, most ordered standard configuration. We had to order since there are so few or no Jeeps on the lot (i.e. 4x4 Overlands or Summits). We are told 6-8 weeks. We know that is optimistic (partly due to this site). It takes 10-14 weeks or more. No one would complain if proper communication was upfront. I was a complainer but now just don't care and fine with the wait. There is no other vehicle that I really want (& I have tried hard to find an alternative). I now understand that Jeep was just not prepared for such a high demand of these higher end Jeeps. I think if the dealers just would say that upfront most of us would accept it.

Re: Why are peopel complaining about wait times?

Sometimes it is getting incorrect information from the dealer. Sometimes it is placing too much emphasis on information that is stated to likely be inaccurate (like the projected delivery date when the vehicle hasn't been built yet). Sometimes it is a wait that seems to have no progress. Sometimes it is inexplicable wait- the vehicle has been built, but just is sitting there and not in transit.

There's a large number of reasons for frustration with the wait. I do think Jeep needs to get serious about getting orders built and shipped. This is a mass production, domestically produced vehicle. There's enough made for some to sit on dealer lots (if they can build them for stock, it's reasonable to assume they should be building them for orders). Parts shortages are a failure of Jeep corporate and their suppliers to plan. Shipping snafus are a failure of shippers to plan accordingly and Jeep to ride their contractors to get things moving.

These aren't Ferraris. We aren't talking about something in a limited production run that is hand built specifically and only to order with a 6-12 month lead time. These are things they bang out one after another by the dozens, if not hundreds.

A 3 month wait is not necessarily unreasonable, but when you start getting close to the end of that time frame with no word on why there's been no progress, I can certainly understand the frustration, and have myself abandoned an order for something found in stock. But ditching the WK2 for a competitor just means you're getting a lesser vehicle.
