Re: Why are the Altitude's so popular?

Well here is a little off the chart reasoning that did play a part in my decision. I work deeply in the automotive technology field and have seen the recent explosion/implementation of technology within our vehicles. It is very nice to have adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane mitigation, etc... These things have been being implemented in our vehicles for years, but there is definitely a big technology leap coming up. All of the current technology is enjoyable and well implemented, but very shortly we will see these technologies advance 10 fold. I'm thinking 6-8 years out before it hits consumers who will be able to reasonably afford it in their vehicle package.

This reasoning was a part of my decision to get into the Altitude. I would have loved to spend the extra $ on the new bells and whistles but to me it isn't there yet, but soon will be. I also favored the blacked out look of the Altitude based on my own personal preference. The sunroof, leather/suede seats, 8" touch screen, body color matching moldings, and the V6 all added to what I wanted my experience to include when owning this vehicle.

I'm heavily anticipating the next gen Grand Cherokee and even Wagoneer. Certainly we will see much more improvement with implemented technology and options. When that time comes I may likely will be ready to trade up. But for now, the Altitude was at the perfect price point for the equipped options it offered.

Re: Why are the Altitude's so popular?

Because it's bad ass....

Looks less soccer mom for an SUV if that's your taste. I do wish it had some of the higher end features at least as an option but overall think it's a "looker".

Sorry but the Altitude is no Overland.

If it was, I'd surely own one of those instead of my Overland. I do like most of the appearance features on the Altitude.

Re: Why are the Altitude's so popular?

I wish the altitude package was an option that could be added to any trim level. Allowing me to buy an overland from the factory with a v8 and the altitude appearance package.

That would be nice.

Because that's not an option, I won't be buying another Jeep Grand Cherokee for a long time. If it was an option, I would order one immediately.

Sad part is, it looks better than the overland. So we chose looks over feature sets when we made our decision and sucked up losing out on the extras available on the overland. Overland just doesn't make sense when I paid 35k for a fully loaded altitude (literally every option) before tax title registration. It's a well balanced offering that has everything you need for a street jeep and looks better than the rest of the line up.

Re: Why are the Altitude's so popular?

Ah, but "looks" is a very subjective thing.... While it's not for me, I believe it or something similar would be an excellent and popular "appearance" package across more trim levels rather than being available on a specially equipped Laredo.

No worries. I have a 2012 Overland with black grill, JEEP hood emblem, mirror caps, and rear brow, and removed chrome side strips, that isn't going anywhere.
