Why are the Altitude's so popular?

This is a question I've been scratching my head for a while now. I'm just wondering what makes the Altitude model in such high demand when you can get a Limited or Overland for a few $ more with several other options. I mean no disrespect to those who own one but isn't an Altitude just a glorified Laredo?

Perhaps the blacked out trim and wheels?

Re: Why are the Altitude's so popular?

Some folks like the look and the reasonable set of features in this limited edition version of the Laredo at the price point it's offered. Aside from supply, it's "easy to buy" since there is a very limited set of options. And these same folks don't want or prefer the extras that the next levels up provide.

It's good to have choices. No way would I buy an Altitude for myself, but I can see why it appeals to some.

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I'm sure we'll get many more responses to my question. I'm looking forward to reading them.

Re: Why are the Altitude's so popular?

For me, Altitude sounds better than Laredo- that name sounds like an option from Taco Bell However as Jim points out correctly, having an extra choice that fits nicely between the base model and the Limited without all the bells and whistles might be appealing to some.

Re: Why are the Altitude's so popular?

If you're going by looks the Limited is a glorified Laredo and an Altitude is a blacked out Overland.

I don't like chrome or plastic lowers so I'd need to buy a Overland and then spend more money blacking out the chrome pieces. At that point id have a Grand Cherokee with a bunch of options I never wanted for $10k more than I wanted to spend.

Re: Why are the Altitude's so popular?

I have the Laredo and if I knew about the Altitude before leasing my Laredo, I would have waited for the Altitude. Some people like the blacked out trim on the Altitude and like someone pointed out before, the Limited looks like a glorified Laredo and the Altitude looks like a blacked out Overland.

The Limited use to be the popular one but but they are slowly taking all the content out of it.

Altitude is a looker. What you see is what you get.

The base Limited replaced the "upscale" Laredo X a couple years ago...it's a marketing thing. With most vehicles, "Limited" is the top notch in the line so it attracts the attention of many new buyers who like that name at an attractive price point. And then the up-selling begins; add the tech and you have a baby-Overland. Etc. Regardless of the name, at least there are choices!

Re: Why are the Altitude's so popular?

I just wish I could get a v8 and a true low range 4wd system on the Altitude. I have to look to the limited for that, and there I'd have to spend time and money blacking out/painting all the chrome.

Re: Why are the Altitude's so popular?

Like that the Altitude has the chrome removed, and the lower trim painted to match body color. If I could get it with the 2 speed transfer case, I would buy it, sell the wheels and put 18's on with some Nokian Rotiiva's. I like the interiors also, and don't want all the electronic bling I have now in the Limited.
