Ditto.

The main reason I got rid of my 2005 4th Gen Toyota 4Runner and switched to a Jeep Grand Cherokee was because Toyota dropped the V8 option in the 5th Generation 4Runners.

If Jeep does something similar, I'll probably move to another brand again.

Wellp goodluck, who knows Jeep just might be one of the last ones offering a V8 in the mid size SUV market. They will likely be gone all together at some point.

If that comes to pass, then maybe a BMW or Mercedes SUV. Their V6's are a lot more powerful and well made than their American counterparts, always have been.

Otherwise I'll move somewhere warm where I don't feel the need for a 4x4 SUV.

Ford's ecoboost is supposed to be quite an engine. Howpfully Chrysler can build something to compete with it

The 'eco' part of those engines is largely misleading. They're cleverly gaming the CAFE system (legally no doubt) to get these so-called eco engines high MPG scores.

e.g. the 2.0 ecoboost in the Ford Explorer. Maybe you can get the published MPG figures using that engine in that heavy crossover, if you drive it with 1/8th of a gallon of fuel, downhilll, with a tail wind, at minimal throttle. Use the engine to drive the vehicle normally, and it'll use at least as much gas as the V6. Little, stressed engine in a porker crossover...

Why did Jeep go back to single exhaust?

I'm assuming the Overland kept its duals because it's more of a premium trim level. Although pre 14, Overland V6 had a single tip. Who knows...

Lol at the people hating on the V6. It's competitive with the only choice being offered by other automakers. The 4Runner has less hp power and 3 less gears. The Traverse, Acadia, Enclave have less hp and 2 less gears. The majority of Explorers sold (3.6 V6) have less or equal power and 2 less gears. The Murano has less power and a CVT. And even the recently redesigned Ford Edge isn't equal to the Pentastar V6 in the GC. I digress.

With the exception of the 4Runner, the others aren't really comparable vehicles.

How are they not comparable? Because they don't offer the same 4x4 system? They're all found at the same mall. The 4Runner isn't necessarily comparable either. It's a body on frame truck, the GC is not. So what you're telling me is that nothing is comparable to the GC? But maybe a 4Runner? Lmao ok

If you are the kind of person who views a GC and a Murano as comparable, that is perfectly fine. After all, they will both serve you well at the mall as you note. And tbh, a V6 is probably capable of traversing curbs.

Re: Why did Jeep go back to single exhaust?

I don't hate V6's, I think they can be great in a slightly smaller vehicle than a GC.

I had a V6 in a 1992 Chevy Beretta with a 5 speed manual. That thing was a rocket. Now, today's American V6's get more HP for sure, but they still aren't in line with European ones.

I do think it's comparable. Exactly the same? No. Same size. Similar price points. Similar features. So yeah, I bet they get cross shopped frequently. And well, I guess I'm glad I can be "that kind of person" for you.

Re: Why did Jeep go back to single exhaust?

Speaking of V6s, even though I like the Pentastar, I have always been a fan of Honda V6s. Had the 3.5 in my 07 Acura TL-S, and now the latest 3.5 in my wife's 2015 Honda Odyssey. Such a smooth and good sounding V6. After driving my wife's new Odyssey I often find myself wishing my Grand Cherokee sounded like that. They run strong to, I'm pretty sure my Summit V8 couldn't get away from my wife's Odyssey.
