This is my first Jeep. Traded in my Dodge Journey R/T which served me and my family well for over 5 years.
Before the Dodge and the arrival of my first kid, I had an Audi that was my baby. It was a love-hate relationship that was a money pit in both parts upgrade as well as constant repairs.
When I had my kid, we decided we needed a regular "family" car that wasn't burning a hole in our pockets. So I traded the Audi. Every time I drove the Dodge, I felt like I compromised a lot from the Audi.
Fell in love with the Jeep GC, but every time I ran the numbers we knew we couldn't afford it.
My budget was around $50K give or take so we were looking at the 2016 Honda Pilot Touring (Canadian Elite model) which had all the options. I put a reservation with the dealer and waited for weeks.
In the meantime I couldn't get over the JGC and was searching for used 2015 models and fell in love with the High Altitude Overland model with Eco Diesel. Found one that was 5 months old and with just 6K KM. Spoke to the dealer and put a reservation on it over the phone so I can inspect in person while we negotiate the price.
Over the weekend, checked and the exterior was flawless. No scratches on the paint or wheels. The only blemish was the clear film paint protection on the lower rear door which was bubbling. I pointed it out to the dealer and they will be fixing it per our agreement.
Brand spanking new 2016 Honda Pilot Elite/Touring with all the bells and whistles versus used 2015 JGC HA? To my wife it was a big trade-off. She was at first shaking her head over buying used. To her if I can't afford a vehicle brand new, I shouldn't be forcing to buy if it's out of my financial league.
Of course she made sense, but driving the JGC is a different beast. Brought back memories of when I was driving the Audi. It was sure-footed. It had command of the road versus the Dodge which felt like it was passive.
More importantly despite being big and heavy, it had awesome fuel economy and power with lag (just like my old Audi. LOL).
Hoping this decision will serve me well or I will be getting the "i told you so".
