Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

Have an 02 WJ, which has been an excellent SUV. Wife wanted a new winter vehichle, but no phony SUV's! So that ruled out all the FWD car based junk. Left the Wrangler Unlimited and Grands. Drove both and decided on a Hemi overland.

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

I too debated between the GC and explorer sport as I wanted a bigger suv that could tow. Found the Explorer tougher to see out of and the creature comforts and usability of the controls where nowhere near the Jeeps. Plus the cool feature like air ride, diesel etc not to mention the Jeep looks way better!

Researched them for almost a year before deciding on the Jeep and also debated V8 or diesel. So far really glad I held out and got the diesel.

Also briefly considered the ram but a bit too big and wanted the interior space vs a box.

First Jeep for me and first FCA product as well.

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

Been wanting an SUV for a while now. Drove the Explorer, it was so so, drove the Explorer Sport and it was better, but pretty expensive for what you get so I thought. Held off on the car buying experience for a few months, then a "new" '14 caught my eye and I just started spotting them everywhere. Usually the limited, overland, and summit models. I knew about the Ram Diesel and when I looked up the new GC's I found out they offered the same engine.
I've been a diesel only driver for the last 10 years with VW's and was looking to get out of a VW and try something else. Drove an Overland diesel and decided to order a Summit 3.0. Should take delivery late June, can't wait!

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

I bought the Grand Cherokee because they quit making the Commander.

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

I had a '92 and '96 Cherokee, and when the 96 was done I got a 2001 WJ. The '97+ Cherokees were too small for me after the redesign. I'm 6'6". After I hit 200k+ miles on the WJ (and the transmission died), I replaced it with a Commander (V6) and didn't keep that too long. Wasn't super happy with that car compared to other Jeeps.
Replaced it with a 2015 JKU Sport in October and I love it. I would consider a GC again for sure. I like having the ability to go off road, but I drive too much on highways to do any serious modifications to my wrangler anyway. I'm guessing my next car will depend on what they do to the wrangler line with the next redesign. Hopefully I won't be buying something new anytime soon anyway.

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

There's nothing comparable to the JGC right now, at least not in the price range.

Nothing else has the on and off road capabilities in a single package. If you want something like the JGC Limited, you have to jump up to the Mercedes and Rovers.

Everything else is a rough and tumble 4x4, or street only.

My favorite feature is the air suspension. I don't have to drive a trail rig all day long, and I don't have to take a street car off road.

I had 2 Explorers before this one, but the new one simply didn't have a capable enough drive train.

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

Why ?...because I always wanted to have a 4x4 and at the other end I like highway driving, so this has been perfect and allows me to enjoy both types of driving always enjoying a fine leather interior..cant ask for anything else...oh well...maybe it would be nice to have a supermodel sitting at my side...but lets not go off-topic !...
Rgds.

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

1. Towing
2. Did not want third row seats
3. AWD or 4x4 for winter driving
4. V6 and fuel economy
5. Rear and Side sight lines
6. Price
7. Cargo capacity
8. Rear Camera
9. Nav (though this is turning out to be a negative with no map updates)
10. Style

I wasn't originally looking at the Jeep, I was looking at the Ford Edge or another Murano. I didn't like the Edge, horrible sight lines, so I went to check out Mazda. The CX-9 has third row seating, so that eliminated it. The Jeep dealer just happened to be next to the Mazda dealer.

I took a test drive in a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and loved the ride. The 8-speed transmission made the Jeep drive much like the CVT in the Murano. I then spent a day or two researching everything about the Jeep. The price was right and it had all of the features that I was looking for.

My sister and my brother-in-law loved it so much that they bought a 2015 Grand Chereokee.

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

Had a 1500 RAM hemi and while it ws a great vehicle, was a 100.00 a week fuel habit. Already have a 2500 cummins so no need for 2 pickups.
Mainly bought for fuel economy and road trip comfort. SO far have taken two 3500 mile trips and very happy with appx 30MPG on trips and all weather capabilities. Have DOM's plate, which is critical I believe.
Have not had any real issues and most all things have been fixed under warranty with no problems from dealer. My biggest remaning problem is the climate control system. It immediately blasts you with cold air, weather it is 25 or 75 deg outside and my wife turns it off as soon as we get in, until it gets situated. Haven't found a fix yet. Sad as this should not be a problem on any vehicle today.....
Overall we are happy as long as it holds up and continues on the same path... ( did buy the Maxcare warranty for as long as I plan to own it, too many expensive things that can go wrong with this vehicle!)
