Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

I'm curious as to what brought you to choose a Grand Cherokee. As opposed to other Jeep models or other SUV choices.

For me, I have said in other threads that this will be my 5th Jeep ,but my first Grand Cherokee, and it will replace my current Wrangler JKU Sahara.
I find I am doing a lot more highway driving than I was when I bought the Wrangler and it is not truly well suited for these trips.
So, I am looking forward to:
- improved fuel economy (JGC will be diesel)
- better handling and ride comfort - Wrangler is about as aerodynamic as a cardboard box
so you are fighting the wind and bouncing down the road more often than not
- creature comforts -despite improvements over the years, Wrangler is still pretty primitive.
Maybe cause I'm getting older LOL but I do appreciate some of the luxo options that come on my Overland.
One last comment is the 4 wheel drive system. My Overland has the Quadra Drive system which I prefer over Qudra Trac I or II, and way better choice for me over the Command Trac that my Wrangler has.

At the end of the day it is still a JEEP and as such capable of any crazy weather / driving conditions we get here in Ontario, and if outfitted with some decent rubber (my choice is Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs) should suit my needs very well while riding in some comfort
and enjoying some techie devices at the same time!

After reading the first few lines I thought, why doesn't he just say he's getting older.

I continued reading, and lo and behold ...

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

Wanted a replacement for my Nissan Patrol, given Nissan have discontinued the 4.5L petrol and only offer a 4cyl 3L turbo diesel (gutless) and the Landcruiser is prohibitively expensive. A mate put me onto the Jeep as I can still set it up to 4WD and it is big enough for me to throw my bike in the back without taking the wheel off, surfboards etc and can sleep in the back at a pinch. The power of the diesel is a bonus for me.

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

My dad was was into jeeps while I was growing up..86 Grand Wagoneer (learned to drive in that beast), 93 Grand Cherokee, and two 04 Grand Cherokees.

I had an old 86 Monte Carlo Ls and it suxed in the snow and I never could get up the family driveway and would get stuck all the time. After a few years of that and using my dads 86 and 93 in snow I knew it was time to get one my self...

I have been very happy since...started with my 96 Grand Cherokee that got me through college..then my 05 Grand Cherokee when I got a good job now on to my 13 Grand Cherokee which is the best yet...

So I guess its all my dad fault..lol

BTW my dad is thinking of getting a 15 WK2 or even the Grand Wagoneer if it does come out.

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

Needed something with 4WD Lo and lots of ground clearance that wouldn't sag when we filled the rear of the vehicle with lots of gear and rocks. If Subaru made such a thing we probably would have purchased that instead.

We test drove the diesel and the V6 gas and really liked how the diesel sounded, handled, and accelerated. The fuel economy was a big plus.

Since this is likely the second to last vehicle of my life, we opted for some luxury amenities to make the 9 hour drives we do in this a bit more comfortable. (yes, we're getting older)

3100 miles on my 2015 JGC Limited 4WD EcoDiesel and no regrets.

I have a '15 Escape. I always intended to come back to Jeep. In '14 I wanted a Summit. I was the old guy who loves chrome. But, the off road package was not available in the Summit, so I got an Overland. After going through two fishing seasons in Delaware I learned a couple of things. Surf fishing sucks in Delaware, and the limited beach access doesn't require the off road package.

The early build '14 had a lot of annoying updates and a couple of non-features. I decided to give Jeep a chance to get them straightened out. I didn't want to invest in a car I wasn't going to keep, but wanted something that would be fun to drive. My 18 month old Jeep was still worth more than the Escape Titanium, so I put money in my pocket, I am having fun with the Escape, and if all goes as planned I'll be in a Summit early next year.

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

Styling, options/features, value. I have a '14 Summit and it has every imaginable feature you could want and then some. Incredible stereo!! This Harmon still blows my mind that it's a factory setup. The 8.4 Uconnect is hands down best system I have used. The huge screen instrument cluster is awesome! The 5.7 has good power and sounds awesome going through those 8 years.
Getting into value, now obviously this Summit isn't exactly cheap, but I have heard it on several road test videos that if you wanted a similarly equipped Lexus, BMW, Audi etc, you will be in the $80,000+ range.

Re: Why did you choose Grand Cherokee

Had two previous Jeeps - a rock solid 4L '91 Cherokee Sport that lasted over 200K miles, and a nice '02 Overland with the 4.7L HO. Moving to the NC mountains to a location with close to 80" of annual snow required a snow capable vehicle. The deciding factor on the GC was the proven Hemi drivetrain, the new ZF 8 speed, and the ability to order the Quadradrive and QL in the cheaper Limited trim minus the sunroof.
