I had a pleasant surprise when I took delivery of my customer ordered Cherokee. The lease payment was actually over a $100 a month lower then what my dealer had guessed at. Chrysler Capital, Chrysler's new finance company is making some great loans and leases right now even if you have shaky credit.
I do know a thing or 2 about negotiating a lease - I have leased a few cars before, and I always negotiate on the monthly payment. I have 2 friends in leasing companies and just compare the monthly payment - of course I ask them what price that is based off - but that is mostly irrelevant.

The car price may not change month to month, but the money factor will. In my case, I was supposed to get the car in February, but had a problem with delivery. March numbers turned out to be worse then February, however, I was able to get them to give me the car at February prices

Another thing about negotiating on price that I experienced this time around. I originally went to Nader at Koons Jeep as a group buy price. He gave me a fantastic price on the car itself, but the lease payment was outrageous. It was higher by at least $60 from what I got locally in NY. They couldn't explain why either. So, if I was buying - I would buy it from Koons, but leasing turned out to be better from NY.

From this, I learned that negotiating on price of car, at least for me, doesn't work. Especially since the concept of negotiating is the same. I get multiple dealers/leasing companies to give me the best price they can and I go with that company.

PS - sorry for getting off topic

Huh?? You better believe that if I'm car shopping and about to drop tens of thousands of $$ that I'm going to conduct a thorough test drive of the models that I'm considering. Nothing to abuse the car, but testing acceleration from a stop as well as on the freeway, handling response, and braking.

If dealers were concerned about providing a pristine vehicle to buyers, they'd keep a car in each engine/drive train option available specifically for test drives. People who are picky about that sort of thing can either seek out a car with very few miles on it or factory order one. IMHO many people don't care that much so the dealers are not motivated to make a change.

I think that I posted elsewhere about the lack of dealer loyalty and the fact that I've been factory ordering for over 20 years from one of two local dealers. A dealer that meets your requirements will have at least a $100 K in demos to satisfy people like you and I double dog guarantee you that the cost of the service is built in to the selling price. I enjoy the luxery of living in a small town where the dealer supports the same non-profits I beleive in and is dependend on my repeat business. I love it when my local service writer sends a guy to the back of the line because he got "the best price" on a GC two states over and I get quick service and a free loaner!

I bought my GC out of state; if I ever found out the Chrysler dealership where I take it for warranty work and service was punting me to the "back of the line" just because I didn't purchase it from them I'd not only immediately take it to another dealer, but I'd also be contacting Chrysler corporate about the way I was treated. Why do you think it matters to a dealership where anyone purchased their vehicle when they bring it in for service work? The dealership gets paid regardless - either by the owner, or by Chrysler if it's warranty work. I get a free loaner and quick service where I take mine, too - they know I didn't purchase it from them, they just appreciate that I chose them for the work instead of one of the four other Chrysler dealers in my area.

In the end I'm getting a limited EcoDiesel without the Lux II package, with trailer tow, with Nav, with ORA I, + body color mirrors & flat fold seat. I will be de-chroming it, adding in an ARB lift, and Mopar wheels. Basically I'm building my own eco-diesel Trailhawk.

Pretty much what I'm after. Is it really that simple, cause it's amazing how little salesmen know about what they are selling.

When I first went in for service at the dealer where I didn't buy the Jeep, the service manager was pissed off. He wasn't mad at me, but at the salesman who never got back to me, causing me to buy somewhere else.

As he put it, he could have lost a service customer because someone in sales didn't do their job. Service managers make money based on what goes through the shop, not what goes through the showroom.

The service manager who doesn't realize that, doesn't understand what side his bread is buttered on.

Yes, it is that easy. If you want, I can send you the order codes/descriptions of what I ordered if your really interested. I suspect however, that because I ordered a non-standard limited(no sunroof/sunroofs!), production may take longer. PM me if interested.

Yes, have a feeling my "no sunroof" decision delayed mine as well, but glad I got it exactly the way I wanted it.

Agreed. A delay in my order would be fine.

Hello,
I am new in this forum. I am planning to buy a GC diesel for towing and offroading. I did agree on the price with dealer, however the dealer is telling me that I have to wait ate least for 8 weeks before getting the car. I have another car that I would like to trade in , however the dealership does not even mention the trade in car's current value in the contract. I am worry about that receiving the GC, the dealer offer me much lower price for my trade in car. I don't want go through hassle of selling my privately.
Thank you
