Re: Why do 4x4 Jeeps have no option for part time 2wd?

I have similar system on my old Pathfinder 01 (All Mode 4WD) - you can switch between 2WD, Full Time 4WD, 4WD Hi (locked center diff) and 4WD Low (locked center diff). Love the system as most of the time I spent in 2WD. Even though I can use Full Time 4WD on dry surface I don't as my MPG suffers a little bit.

Seems like you have a little bit more of a control over what the car is doing. To bad they don't offer this anymore.

Re: Why do 4x4 Jeeps have no option for part time 2wd?

Because most modern 4x4 systems are constantly watching the road/traction conditions and so will automatically route power where needed.

"Full time" 4WD nowdays does not mean that all wheels are constantly powered, just that at any time it's ready to do so within milliseconds.

Not sure if the Jeep system does that, but it's how your more advanced 4x4 systems typically work.

Wow, jeep noob here. I thought the 4x4 models were always 4x2 until you switched the selector to one of the other options.

Learn something new every day

QD does with an approximate 60/40 bias to the rear wheels. The front wheels are being driven by power though at all times.
