Wow, you REALLY hate my signature don't you! You've now mentioned it like 4 or 5 times now.

As a good will gesture...I will now edit it just for you...

I appreciate the kind words at the end of your post to me, but it's statements like these which may me feel you're too thinned skin at times, and tend to make moutains out of mole hills.

Sorry...just how I feel.

Re: Why Do Complaint Posts Get Closed So Early?

As the guy who started the "Jeep dead last in Consurmer Reports" thread, just let me say this:

I am new to any car forum. I discovered this forum via a Google search for some diesel information as I await my new GC Limited CRD. I find this forum HUGELY helpful, both the complainers and the advocates. I take the position that I'm here to learn from others. I think I can tell the difference between chronic complainers who just want to vent, and those who discuss the problems they've had and the corrective actions they've taken as a way to educate the rest of us. And I am really glad that some folks are so thrilled with their Jeeps that they want to say so. They lend some much needed balance to this forum that would otherwise make it look like there weren't any good Jeeps at all.

As far as closing threads - I totally respect the right of the owner of the forum to run it as he sees fit. Threads are sort of like Fly Paper. Put it up, see what sticks to it. After a while it gets full and you take it down! Meanwhile some useful information gets distilled out.

Re: Why Do Complaint Posts Get Closed So Early?

one statement here before I close this thread as well.

It seems both you and MSCA started with one simple issue with a clunk or hard shift from 2-1 or 1-2 when creeping in a parking lot...or in a certain scenario......to your entire jeep is a piece of shit with all these "issues" and yes issues is a quote from both of you. Al the sudden you have friends, collegues, collegues daughters etc. with the same horrible issues. There are folks here with the same issue. But to me...its kinda silly. I drove one members jeep who was complaining and it didn't do it one time or when it did...he said...see there....it did it. I just looked at him and smiled....
It was a WOW moment for me. I told him to quit being a whiner and drive his truck like it was meant to be driven. Turn up the great audio system....drive in sport ever once and awhile. Quit driving through parking lots with all audio, ac systems etc. off listening for squeaks, clunks and squeals. Enjoy your jeep and enjoy life instead of looking for every little noise coming from your man made vehicle. He responded by...."my Toyota Avalon never did any of this!" So we drove it.....9000 miles....put windows down...all audio and ac off. It had all kinds of noises...squeaks and squeals. Brakes, tranny, suspension etc. I pressed on the dash and it squeaked like a mouse. I proved my point. My point here is quit being so damn anal and drive your damn jeeps! Don't like my statement.....so long....don't let the door hit ya

I wish you wouldn't close this thread. Theres been a good discussion in here and I think headway has been made. Maybe move it to the forum feedback section or something, but I wouldn't close it.

Some issues I agree are trivial. My 8 speed is a little spastic too...but I don't think its unusual and other high gear autos I've driven are similar. BUT, not all of them are. Again what you're doing is marginalizing and trivializing people's concerns...which adds to the problem.

These complainer posts happen everywhere and for every brand, but there ARE legitimate issues here.

Re: Why Do Complaint Posts Get Closed So Early?

No headway has been made at all. Its becoming a rehash of the other 10 threads about transmissions. What headway has been made?

Everybody wants freedom, but too many only want it for themselves.

Some folks just want to rule the world and tell everyone else what they can and can't do.

Most of these are too cheap to buy some server hardware and a domain name...

Second, if criticism is levied in a balanced and thoughtful way, the site becomes stronger and just may get us what we want - an improved product.
And a bit of venting helps keep the juices flowing sometimes. Plus, some of them are so damn entertaining.

Unfortunately, after a while, the venting becomes the topic and not the original issue or anything even remotely resembling the original issue.

PS. Would the mods be willing to start a pool for how long it takes to get this topic shutdown? I could offer a PDF of a 1950s Willys 4wd as prize...
