Why does my 2013JGC Insist on unlocking

when I'm in the garage next to it and what do I do to stop it?

I smoke cigars sitting in the garage about a foot from the left, rear tire. Locking it may seem unnecessary while it's in my garage but there's a pistol in the console. Frequently, the locks unlock and the lights come on. Yes, the fob is in my right, front pocket. I always carry it with me. Yes, they eventually time out but I don't like the slight drain on the battery.

Using the key to lock it seems to eliminate the unwanted unlocking but I shouldn't have to use it should I? Will a specific lock pressing procedure prevent this phenomenon?

Dan

Re: Why does my 2013JGC Insist on unlocking

Take the fob out of your pocket, but keep it nearby and see if it continues to happen.

The problem could be you, and the way you are sitting.

I'd second bill_de's suggestion. I've had the panic button go off when I crossed my legs while I was in my house, and I've had the engine remote start get activated while I was walking around. I'm assuming it was keys in my pocket pushing into the jeep key fob.

Re: Why does my 2013JGC Insist on unlocking

Thanks y'all. There's nothing else in my pocket but y'all could be right. I'll take it out and see if that 'fixes' it.

When I'm at my local car wash using the pressure washer bay my jeep does the same stuff. I always thought it had to do with passive entry.

When washing, at rinse the GC, having the FOB in my pockets or in the car, the water dripping on the handles will unlock..or activate the passive entry...every time.

It's your nipple ring pressing on the fob.

Re: Why does my 2013JGC Insist on unlocking

This "drain" on your battery by the lights flashing for a split second and the doors unlocking is infinitesimal.

I guess you could worry about this trivial waste of electricity and potential future damage to the vehicle's charging system, or just leave your keys inside the house, which would be the simple solution. Your choice.

Re: Why does my 2013JGC Insist on unlocking

With a gun in the GC, it is most definitely wisest to keep it locked for many reasons.

The cause could be one of these things:

(1) You accidentally press the button on your fob such as if the keys are folded up against the buttons and you sit down or other movements. Has happened to me. It would also happen when you are in fob range. Most probably this is the case.

OR

(2) One of the handles has moisture on it or something else on it or defective in that it thinks a hand has touched it when the fob is in range.

OR

(3) That ain't a cigar you are smoking...

OR

(4) Your GC is telling you it needs to go out and play.

Now that's weird. I never would have thought about the drops of water being responsible for that.

And, thanks y'all.

Re: Why does my 2013JGC Insist on unlocking

Mine does the same thing. The Jeep is not wet and the FOB is in my hand with no fingers near any buttons. I just have to lock it again and it holds. Gotta love tech. Just give me the tried and true regular keys that never seem to have this problem.
