Yeah, the engine cover says hemi. They couldn't get rid of this because putting on a new engine cover would mean they'd need to have apply for new EPA estimates. (I read that somewhere.)

Re: Why no Hemi Badging on 2011 5.7L JCs?

First thing I did on my test drive was ask about the badging. The salesmand said the same thing about Chrysler looking to make Dodge the performance division. He also cited the changing market perception of larger displacement engines. Finally, he was surprised to see the HEMI badging on the engine cover as he thought it was going to be removed. Interesting. I was thinking about getting one myself.

I resemble both of those remarks.

I was thinking about adding one myself but really anyone that might want to know what engine is in there should be able to tell by the dual exhaust.

Re: Why no Hemi Badging on 2011 5.7L JCs?

Chrysler/Jeep/Fiat is embarrassed to put the Hemi badge on because due to the pathetic transmission and obesity this vehicle is a dog and gas hog. As Car and Driver decribed the Overland Hemi in their review, "V-6 performance with V-8 gas mileage".

Am I the only one here who removes all the badges from their Jeep. My order is for GC number 7 for me. They were all "Jeep-less."

Re: Why no Hemi Badging on 2011 5.7L JCs?

Since the 4 brands are now basically separate units (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram), Chrysler has decided that the HEMI term will only be used on Dodge and Ram models. The "fuel efficiency" (or lack thereof) is part of it, but it's really more of a "brand identity" decision.

Yes, I concede on the tailgate logo. I hate chrome too so it is a double loss.

They liked it just fine. The quote was along the lines of "A Hemi V-8 is offered, but the V-6 is sufficient for most owners. We wouldn't get the Hemi, not when the V-6 is so good."

I think it's more than the V-8 doesn't give enough extra performance to justify the added cost and increased fuel use over the V-6 for the vast majority of buyers. The only instances where I'd say the Hemi adds anything tangible would be in towing heavier loads and driving at extreme altitudes (where the power loss would sting a bit more- with the Hemi you'd still lose power, but you'd have more of a margin before it became a problem).
