Re: Wife hit garage today 😞

Don't stress! It's just cosmetic. A mere flesh wound.

Anyone have any thoughts on "nudge bars".

Any benefit or a WOFTAM.

Re: Wife hit garage today 😞

This was a good thread to read. Now I know that my my wife is not the only one to enter or exit the garage before the garage door is fully open. That makes me feel so much better. She has only hit it twice and did more damage to the door than to the 2003 Grand Cherokee. She is seeming to be much more careful with the 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited that she has now, thank God. It has the rear sensors but they would not see the door when it is 2/3 of the way up, so no help there.

Re: Wife hit garage today

My wife had a little fender bender and when I did the calculations, and risks we decided to pay for it out of pocket. It was over $2000.00.

Our insurance would have gone up. I forget the exact numbers.

But what's worse is, if we had another incident or a ticket, the insurance would have sky rocketed.

That looks expensive to fix. But your "little rear ender" might not have been.

I think I calculated if it was even $5000.00 I would have paid out of pocket.

You also have to factor in the resale of the vehicle too. If it's not done by insurance company it's not recorded on the history of the vehicle.

I was also talking with a young new driver. His insurance is insanely high. We calculated if he got ONE ticket it would cost him $5000.00 in insurance. We didn't even try calculating 2 tickets, or a fender bender plus a ticket.

Since like the OP has had happen, even with a great history, shit happens. So if you get into fender bender that is under say even $5000.00. It's worth considering out of pocket.

I think for $2000.00 it was around break even. ASSUMING nothing happened to either one of us, ticket or accident for 3 years.

Long story short, I did something similar when I was like 12. Was "sick" so I stayed home from school and just so happened my old man was in Texas on business. Had the bright idea to roll my father's brand new car out of the garage and Rev the engine and put it back without him noticing.. It had just snowed so it was a little more difficult putting it back in the garage so I gave her the beans, the traction control kicked in and launched me into the side of the garage ripping off the front bumper and smashing the quarter panel. I called my mother to tell her and all she said was, "you call your father and tell him". So, I did and knew I was I'm more trouble than ever before because he didn't yell.... all he said was "I will see you when I get home"...

Sigh.. Good times.

Re: Wife hit garage today 😞

Taking it to another shop my father recommended that has done some really good work for him. I'll speak with the first shop tomorrow to get the final estimate and then the insurance company to see what damage my premium will take if I claim it. Just want my Jeep back to original condition. I hate driving around a damaged vehicle. It's gets a lot of compliments.

Re: Wife hit garage today 😞

I think we found a new thread that competes with "What did you do to your WK2 today?"

Sticky?

Re: Wife hit garage today 😞

$4615 is the quoted estimate. That includes a new side step rail, new rr door skin. Sheet metal repair of rear quarter panel and repainting and blending as well as replacing damaged wheel well mouldings.

Waiting to hear from insurance company as to what the premium damage will be should I choose to claim it.

There may be a tall blonde working the corner down the street from me soon.
