Re: Will Jeep still be Jeep

i wouldnt have bought a gc 2014 if it wasnt for all the features it has, gotta love the 8.4, instead of the 5. something the older ones had!

as much as I love my12, I do wish it had came with the 8.4 screen from the get go like the Chrysler 300's did.

Re: Will Jeep still be Jeep

It was Sergio himself that looked at the initial 2014 prototype, and asked "where are the LED's" and insisted on LED lighting. Fiat has a bad reputation in the past, but so far, the Fiat design input into the 2014's are what gave us the beautiful interiors, the LED lighting, and the EcoDiesel engines. So far, I am happy with the changes. Will have to see what happens a few years down the road. Jeep will be Fiat's cash cow, so if they know what is good for them, they will keep improving the quality.

Can't argue with more tech if it works properly. And a smooth interior at my age is a big plus. As long as they don't sissify the exterior and the performance, who knows. This could be a good thing. I love being behind the wheel knowing that I can go anywhere I want. Literally.

The Jeep brand is hot at this time. I think you will see Chrysler/Dodge models migrating to Jeep brand.

Also they need to keep prices in the range they are now. Chrysler has had a bad history of getting cocky with home-run designs and hiking the prices way up. Hopefully Fiat won't get cocky with the Jeep brand and do the same thing. Jeep is a down to earth brand that was meant for affordability and off road prowess for everyone to enjoy, not just the super rich. From a design stand point the LED lights and the enhanced interiors are a good call.
Like I said in another thread, Jeep hit a home-run with the WK2, it truly is going to be one model of the GC that will be in the Grand Cherokee history books.

Shannon, that was the 2011, not the 2014. For 2014, he finally got his LEDs.

And some have said that Jeep hasn't been Jeep since Chrysler bought AMC in 1987.

I don't know anything about the design process and just think this would be a cool question.

When Sergio saw the 2011 prototype and if he had said this can't be released without LED's (which I know then he didnt have full control), how long would that have taken? I know they would obviously have had to re-design the whole light assembly, but I guess what I am asking is, how long would the design process be for a new headlamp if that's what he had wanted?

Re: Will Jeep still be Jeep

Dunno, but I do know that the 2011 Grand Cherokee was finished before the bankruptcy. There were a few small changes but that's about it.

Re: Will Jeep still be Jeep

Cool, cool... It makes you wonder, what would the 2011 looked like with LED's. Obviously would look different but it's cool to think of lol.

Re: Will Jeep still be Jeep

While some of the Jeep line up has introduced a "softer" side, the stock Wranglers and the GCs are as capable, if not more, than their predecessors. I am of the opinion that the new Cherokee should have been named something different. With that said the new Cherokee still is a very capable vehicle when properly equipped.
