Herein lies the problem.

"when properly equipped" shouldn't be a problem.

4 Low was STANDARD on my Liberty. It was STANDARD on the XJ Cherokee. WHY is this a friggin option?

Agreed. While the QTI system in my wk2 is very capable, it should have 4 Low. There also shouldn't be 2 wheel drive jeeps, period.

There's more to Jeep than offroading so I do understand 2 wheel drives.

But still if you're gonna slap "4x4" on the tailgate... make it true.

Re: Will Jeep still be Jeep

It's been raining here for the past 24 hours. There is an empty sand lot that doubles as a parking area when all the "asphalt" parking spaces are taken. Usually there are a few cars parked there. Today, my Jeep has the lot all to herself!! I guess the mud looked to foreboding for most drivers. Personally I couldn't resist... I had to let her have some fun! Too much asphalt isn't good for a Jeep, you know....
I know there are a lot of people that own capable 4x4's but never take them off the asphalt. They just like riding in a "big" car , as they say. So I can see where the 2wd offerings are coming from.

Re: Will Jeep still be Jeep

You can have the most capable vehicle in the world for a road course or for off road but if the driver doesnt have a clue all systems and electronic nannies wont save him or her or make the vehicle fast.

Hey Marion why dont you drop a suggestion in the box that you and me run the Dakar Raid in 2015. We have an girl support crew and a turbo diesel Wk2.

Jeep really should enter Dakar Raid. Bring back Robby Gordon. He is running some Mini something this year.

That's true. It is more about the driver and their skill than anything else.

And the Dakar Rally rocks. Being in it would put Jeep back on the world map.

You are 100% correct.

To be fair most people don't put themselves in a position where 4 Low is needed and in the days of gov't required fuel economy ratings standard features like this are going to go away.

If the GC ever goes to a FWD based vehicle (like the Explorer) or the Wrangler is eliminated (that would be a sad day) I would say Jeep has lost their way.

The good news is the GC is, in my opinion, in a great place and the Wrangler is as good as ever. The other vehicles in the Jeep line-up can appeal to a wider audience but so long Jeep keeps it's core in the GC and Wrangler intact, I will be a happy repeat customer.

Re: Will Jeep still be Jeep

Agree.

The core needs to be true to Jeeps identity and history. And, the vehicles need to remain true to us (the Jeep buyers) and our need.

Part of the time I just need a vehicle to move my sculpture to/from the gallery, part time pull a light trailer from California to Colorado and back, part time to 4 wheel over Engineer pass in the San Juan mountains (Rocky's) or down to Hole in the Rock (Escalante area).

When/if Jeep (like Ford and others) stops meeting my wants/needs, I'll be purchasing elsewhere.

Eric

The head of Fiat likes the Jeep brand. It may become a Maserati.

But if I really knew what was going to happen, I wouldn't be wasting lunch breaks here--I'd be out dealing stock.

Don't bet on it being Chrysler that defends the Jeep brand. I'd bet on Fiat Group to do that.

The '14 JGC is similar to my first-gen ZJ only in spirit--and that's a good thing other than the mechanical simplicity of the ZJ series that allowed more shade tree maintenance.

The Ford Bronco is no more, the Explorer is a glorified station wagon, the Nissan Pathfinder is also just a glorified station wagon, the Chevy/GMC Blazer is just a mallwagon.

I would challenge any ZJ to keep up with the '14 V8 in the twisties on pretty much any road or lack thereof.

According to interviews, it was Sergio Marchionne himself who dictated that Chrysler put some money into the interiors.

Unfortunately, he's also talked about retiring in the next couple years, so it is hard to say who will be running Fiat Group.

They haven't done too badly for Ferrari, but I'm quite underwhelmed with what they've done to Alfa and Fiat, and Maserati is only recently showing signs of life again, and it appears the Kubang may have gone kabang to the wayside.
