From a design stand point the LED lights and the enhanced interiors are a good call.
Like I said in another thread, Jeep hit a home-run with the WK2, it truly is going to be one model of the GC that will be in the Grand Cherokee history books.
I have this nasty hunch that the GC may be moving even more upmarket in the not too distant future, leaving the affordable but really nice SUV market to the Cherokee and the hardcore market to the Unlimited. It is easier to design and outfit a 50-60K vehicle than a 30K one--and money has never hurt the viability of a brand.

The 50K range of GC's seems to be selling extremely well and the recent price increase doesn't appear to have done much damage. Plus, I didn't see any rebates, huge discounts, etc. on the GC as last year ended--unlike a few competing brands.

They haven't done too badly for Ferrari, but I'm quite underwhelmed with what they've done to Alfa and Fiat, and Maserati is only recently showing signs of life again, and it appears the Kubang may have gone kabang to the wayside.
Fiat/Chrysler will be a hell of lot better off when Sergio"The Magnificent" goes!
He is all talk and BS. Fiat would be a hell of lot better off w/o this scam artist.

OK, it may have been a perfectly capable off-road vehicle, but the only thing I can recall of that era that was uglier than the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer was an Edsel station wagon.

And I just cannot picture George Romney driving a ZJ up the stairs and thru a plate glass window to introduce it at an auto show.

For good or bad, the ZJ moved the market towards at least near luxury being mandatory in family utes.

I'd agree the Cherokee would have gotten less dissing from the faithful if it had been named something like Willys rather than arguably the most popular family ute ever, the Cherokee. Overland would have been more appropriate given the more luxo fittings, but that name from a proud old roadster had already been spent on the GC.

Hey, at least they didn't call it the Eagle. Or Gremlin, or Rambler.

Agreed. Land Rover does all sorts of promotional stunts like driving across the USofA off road, across Iceland, etc. and gets very good press from doing so.

I personally suspect the GC is just as capable as the Range Rover, but unless Jeep can talk folks into making the running of the Rubicon a heavily covered international event, they really are missing good PR opportunities by letting Range Rover and Toyota have all that ink.

An all girl team backed by factory mechanics in a fleet of refurbished LM2's should get SOME coverage.

I agree, although money isn't a problem with me I still only like to pay X amount for a vehicle.

With that being said, when the 17's are released in 16', if I like the new body style (which most likely I will, unless it it looks like a Cherokee eeeek)
will probably be a Limited or Overland depending on the interior .

When Sergio saw the 2011 prototype and if he had said this can't be released without LED's (which I know then he didnt have full control), how long would that have taken? I know they would obviously have had to re-design the whole light assembly, but I guess what I am asking is, how long would the design process be for a new headlamp if that's what he had wanted?

3 years?

Old school Jeepers will tell you the WK2 isn't a true Jeep without a solid rear axle or locking front differential.

Re: Will Jeep still be Jeep

Not worried about Fiat's ownership, in fact looking forward to future growth and improvement of the Jeep brand.

As a matter of fact - I'm certain Fiat's ownership of Jeep will lead to some totally awesome commercials :-)

I think you mean locking front hubs. As an "old school Jeeper", I find the WK2 very capable and a hell of a lot more comfortable than a jacked up CJ-7!

The '14 JGC is similar to my first-gen ZJ only in spirit--and that's a good thing other than the mechanical simplicity of the ZJ series that allowed more shade tree maintenance.

The Ford Bronco is no more, the Explorer is a glorified station wagon, the Nissan Pathfinder is also just a glorified station wagon, the Chevy/GMC Blazer is just a mallwagon.

I would challenge any ZJ to keep up with the '14 V8 in the twisties on pretty much any road or lack thereof.
That statement is exactly why the Jeep Grand Cherokee is no longer a Jeep...Jeep was never about "twisties". The WK2 is horrible in the twisties compared to most suvs in its class and because it tries to be an on road machine it doesn't off-road all that well either... The WK2 isn't really good at anything....
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/...ee-review.html
These beautiful interiors are totally European and are not built to be rugged or age well,(look at ten year old German car interiors/ painted surfaces and had surface scratches all over, leather and soft touch dashes have tears and cracks... the Jeep GC was rugged and off road performance was priority utilitarian interior with touches of luxury...the WK2 is the exact opposite which at the end of the day is why Jeep is still successful and will continue to be... the market has changed and Jeeps done what they need to stay alive which is about what every automaker has done...The only vehicle that has stayed true to its roots like the wrangler is the 4runner which has stayed body and frame with a utilitarian interior and look at the 4runners sales...their horrible...Toyota has a big decision to make with the upcoming generation if this new TRD 4runner doesn't help sales....I'm not meaning to slam the WK2 it is a beautiful vehicle but I'd challenge any WK2 to actually keep up with a ZJ WJ WK on the rubicon.(and not have a ton of damage like the one mopar took through Rubicon)
