Will my power lift gate open if ______ ?

I don't have my wk2 yet but I did get the lux package and wonder if my kids get ahold of the keys or it gets bumped, will the lift gate open and hit off my garage door or will the backup sensors sense something in the way?

Re: Will my power lift gate open if ______ ?

In order to open the hatch from the key fob you must hit that button twice (2x in a row).
So an accidental single pocket push will not trigger it.

But anyone, adult or child, who does this correctly can open the tailgate.

The B/U sensors are just that... for B/U when in reverse only.

The tailgate hatch itself can be pushed to open in questionable situations like backed-up near objects behind or even above in the form of an opened garage door and will hit/make contact with these objects even though it will reverse upon sensing an impact.
Which could in turn damage, dent & scratch it.

Just simple common sense care must be used with this hatch release.

and if you ever need to manually get it open from a dead battery, it is a PITA! You'll need to crawl back there and pop the cover off, fun when it's pitch black at night - but you do have your flashlight next to it

Sounds like a good reason to keep one of those portable battery-pack/jumper-kits available.

Re: Will my power lift gate open if ______ ?

My grandson pushed the tailgate open button on the overhead console while the garage door was closed. When the tailgate hit the door, it reversed; no damage that I can see. It doesn't take much resistance to reverse the door, either opening or closing.

That's good to know. I still worry bout something like this happening and getting damage..
