Re: will your wk2 leave the tarmac?

Took my WK2 off-road last sunday, in an area more suited for quads then grand cherokee's...lots of sandy washes and berms to negotiate. While i picked trails that were wide enough to avoid pinstriping a 3 day old blackberry truck, i did get into enough fun stuff to scrape skid plates and get a sense for what it can do. And it did great! As i was driving through the "whoops" i was struck by just how comfortable the ride was. It almost seemed surreal! In my last vehicle, a ram, I would have been practically bouncing off the ceiling....almost seemed too comfortable, if that makes any sense. My 13 year old loved all of the bouncing around in the old truck and I think he missed it

Offroad, is this not what a Jeep is made for?

Re: will your wk2 leave the tarmac?

Well, if past history is any guide, I expect my Jeep will get into a few hairy situations during its stay with me. How else do you explore the envelope of its capabilities? As long as no one get hurt. Besides, those scratches will buff right out ...

Re: will your wk2 leave the tarmac?

We often go with our present GC into muddy fields and the like because we have to. However, fun offroading, done behind my wife's back, is reserved for when we visit her relatives in the rural Midwest. On one of their farms is an abandoned, steep-sloped rock quarry that would challenge a Sherman tank.

If the WK2 can't handle this, they shouldn't call it a Jeep. Watch for my obituary.

I get down there a couple of times a year. What is your set up? Hemi or V6, Off road package, Quadradrive II?

Re: will your wk2 leave the tarmac?

We went to the Corolla north beach only, our house was in Corolla and they were doing road work on Rt 12 in Duck blocking both lanes so we did not go south beyond Duck the whole week (traffic delays were 1 hour).
I have a V6 with Quadradrive 11, no off-road package. I saw one 2011 the whole week, a silver WK2 on the same 4WD beach.

Re: will your wk2 leave the tarmac?

Thread is a little old but still pertinent. I plan on taking it out more when the wifey when I get more time. The Overland has only seen a couple trail roads so far...

Re: will your wk2 leave the tarmac?

Living in SW Colorado, I have at least 10 good trails to run within 30 miles of my house. Actually use Ophir Pass as a short cut to Telluride. I cannot comprehend why anyone would buy a Jeep and not use it as it was intended to be used!
