Back on Feb 5 I got tagged by a stone that chipped the upper corner of my windshield on the passenger side. It was a very small ding with no radiating cracks but I didn't want it to get any worse. Took it in for repair today.
1. It was covered 100% by my insurance (Allstate)
2. The shop that did it used the standard method-- drill down to the laminate layer, vacuum out any air, fill with clear epoxy resin.
3. I tried to get a photo of the fix but it's tough to focus on glass and get proper background so the repair will show up. Suffice it to say that it's noticeable (more so than the original ding) and it created a 4-leaf clover or Maltese Cross pattern in the material.
My wife is a big Michigan fan so I'm going to tell her that they let me pick a college logo for the repair and I chose Notre Dame. Now it'll bug her every time she rides shotgun in the Jeep.
I'm not crazy about the fix but for $0 I'm going to live with it for a while before deciding what to do. If I hate it, the shop will refund their fee to Allstate and I will get that same amount as a credit toward a new windshield. I'll probably just wait till the next chip and then get the whole glass replaced for my $250 deductible.
PS: The shop tech was diggin' the sharkfin antenna and was familiar with Visual Garage. He also tried to upsell me on front window tints and a clear bra.
