So, time to get new wipers for my 2011 GC. No problem, will order online from Amazon to make it easy.....checked out the sizes needed on several wiper manufacturer website --- all said I'd need a 22" for driver's side, a 21" for passenger's side and a 12-A for the flipper glass. Ordered Trico exact fit so look just like the original factory ones.

Well........they arrive and I go to install and the passenger's side is way too big....need an 18" not a 21" as the wiper manufacturers say. Somewhere, these guys are getting the wrong size info. Anyway, thought I would pass it along in case you are getting ready to order new wipers.... And yes, I triple+ checked the websites for the correct sizes to order and they are all mistaken.

Some of us prefer the convenience of online ordering and accessibility to particular brands/models that are not available locally. It's not anything at all resembling "lazy"...

My '14 takes the Icon 21 & 22. Put them on right after I took delivery in April. I order a lot of stuff online. I hate the mall. But I have a Carquest Auto Parts in the neighborhood, and like to keep my relationship with them warm and fuzzy. They've been really helpful over the years. I guess I'm old school when it comes to my wheels. I come from a time when you went to the local Texaco station for gas and went inside for a cup of coffee, and to schmooze with the owner and mechanics. They even had some chairs so you could hang out and shoot the b.s. with your buddies if they showed up. Aw, the good old days. ;)

Nothing like that around here, Jacko...all the auto parts places are very "clinical". Even the independent mechanic we use doesn't like them! LOL

It really is 22/21 according to Bosch, Silblade, Trico.
Got a tape measure?

For the rear, I used to use a slightly longer blade and just cut the rubber slightly so it didn't hit anything. Got better coverage that way.

I'd suggest a local parts store and a tape measure next time. Although those Bosch Icons are nice.

...something is wrong with mine as it came with 18" (trust me, I measured three time) and only 18" will fit for passenger's side. Perhaps the wrong wiper arm was installed at the factory and they just used substituted a difference size wiper blade to make it work instead of really addressing the issue. I will know more after a visit to the dealership.

^^^ No problem....it's what you do with the 18" that counts! LOL

It really is a mystery though..... Anyone else wanna measure their wiper arms from pivot to end on both the driver's and the passenger's sides and post it?

Thanks for the input, but my GC came from the factory with a 18" wiper blade AND only an 18" wiper blade will fit as the 21" extends beyond the glass even with a different brand... So the brand isn't the issue. I'll need to compare a GC side by side to figure this one out....very odd.

My 2011 Overland is spec'd at 21/22. I like to use 22/23 as they cover more of the windshield without touching the edges.

After suffering through a couple pairs of streaking Icons and based on recommendations here, I switched to Valeo 600's. No streaks, no errors... seem to work much better than the icons. Amazon was one of the few places I found Valeos.

Not yet --- gotta take in for an oil change and tire rotation, so will ask at the dealership to see what is going on with the wiper size!

Yep...and a wheel balance for good measure. I explained the wiper thing to the rep....he just scratched his head. Came back and said the mechanic thinks during assembly they sometimes grabbed the wrong wiper arm (as if the mechanic would know that). So, I took out my tape measure and it measures the exact same as another GC in the shop. They just kinda shrugged their shoulders.

I'm going to have to do a side by side comparison.....to measure everything possible in order to solve this mystery. Stay tuned.

Who makes the OEM wiper blades?

Anyone know the correct Anco/Trico wiper blade refill part#'s?? (Just the rubber blade, NOT an entire metal wiper/rubber blade assembly!)

It looks like the Trico "46 series" are a direct OEM wiper refill blade that might work w/the OEM metal wipers but the largest size they come in is 20"??
Please post if you know. Thanks

Mystery solved....going over my maintenance records to prep everything for sale I saw one where my original dealer's service department replaced my wiper blades....and yes, they put in the 18" which musta been a mistake on their part. When I put in the 21" about a year later it overlapped the rubber gasket trim on the edge of the window when in the off position. I have looked at many 2011 GC's since then, some the 21" fits just right with a small glass gap between the wiper blade and the rubber gasket trim and others overlap just a bit onto the rubber gasket trim. I would say there is a half inch variance between the various vehicles I have looked at. So my second Jeep dealer's service department who couldn't figure it out and thought perhaps the wrong wiper arm was installed was wrong.

It was very very very odd so at least now I can finally get a good night's sleep! LOL Just kidding...

^^^

Jeep was about 1.5 years old and I probably had one of those many coupons the dealer service centers send me to replace the wiper blade rubber part, this dealer doesn't do that, only the entire wiper blade so they did that instead and installed the wrong size. Surprising error since they are a large dealership.
