WK 2 is a little scary with all the problems especially SRT

Hi there, I have had about 8 Jeeps and more from Chrysler. Currently have an LJ, an Aspen and a Crew Cab 1500 4th Gen. I was looking at a used '12 and '13 SRT8 Grand, love the looks. However was researching on the SRT8 forum and boy there are some issues, mainly build issues although trannies and even motors blown at 30K are listed. Now on the general forum here and I see much the same. Its really unfortunate. I am a Chrysler guy.
My 08 Aspen has been trouble free as has my 09 Ram; I do need to replace a wheel bearing on the Ram at 66K.
My 04 Grand Overland V8 did have the blend doors go bad, but other than that all the doo- dads and interior pieces held up well. I traded it with 96K for the Ram.

I was really considering the SRT or back off and get a '13 overland but these issues listed just do not inspire confidence at all, some of which are pretty darn serious. Looks like Chrysler has taken a few steps backward.
I have no car payments today and cant see jumping in to make payments and the headaches. Really unfortunate to see and sad. Now I know, these are just a fraction of the vehicles produced, etc etc but really its not a good sign.

Signed, Disappointed.

Sorry for your disappointment. I've had my '14 Overland for over a year now with no problems, but it looks like you've talked yourself out of a GC. That's a decision only you can make for yourself.

Well it is concerning for sure. I have driven GCs twice as rentals and like the size etc but certainly can't move to something that is going to literally fall apart.

Nothing to see here, move on. I wouldnt call Jeep a luxury car to expect it not to fail one way or another. The SRT is a beefed up bolt on's, probably in the same hands as someone who also builds Laredo's. That's what warranty is for.

I think most of the problems you hear are the very early build 2014s. You always hear the bad but there are many of us who are happy. I have a 2013 and absolutely no issues.

Tranny issues with the SRT? Zero tranny issues with my V8 2011 and 2014 GC Summits. Solid vehicles all around.

Guys, Jeeps do have more problems. We see it come up on initial build quality surveys and extended reliability surveys. Worse, is Jeep dealer experiences. If I spent $50k+ on a Mercedes I would get a loaner if it crapped out, but with Jeep I'll get a "hey bub, bad luck. Deal with a car rental company for an economy car." If this wasn't the case I wouldn't be looking for alternatives, but sadly, I am. And this is my 3rd Jeep. This is also the first one I've needed towed to a dealership under the original warranty.

Re: WK 2 is a little scary with all the problems especially SRT

I've had some problems with my early build 14, but I wouldn't say it's a bad vehicle. I expected to have issues and the warranty covers these problems. What is an issue is the dealership experience. Chrysler seriously needs to work out the problems these dealers cause and how they tarnish the brand if they really want to compete and move up in the market. I would most definitely buy another Jeep and really enjoy my vehicle, but every time I have to interact with the dealer, it seems they don't give a damn about your problems or try take quality in the work they do which sours the brand image.

I would agree with this. Even at the upper trims, the JGC is a fantastic value and a great vehicle. In fact, the current vehicle I'm looking at (the Mercedes ML400) has some disadvantages. And the crappier the weather/conditions, the more I appreciate the car. And despite my fury with Jeep, I love the concept of a lifetime Maxcare warranty and by the time I purchase a new vehicle, the next generation will be out. All of that means that I'm not ruling out yet another JGC either. But like you said, the dealer experience is so bad that it sours me on the notion of another Jeep. It isn't actually the reliability issues per se. If when I had issues I showed up, simply gotten a loaner, and got the car returned several days later with problems fixed then I would be happy. It doesn't even have to be a particularly amazing loaner. They could get a mid-range option like the Cherokee and people will be thrilled. No one is saying they have to have a fleet of JGC Summits or SRTs on standby.

Chrysler did deal with dealers a bit ago.
Unfortunately, they killed the franchise of many dealers who weren't selling as many vehicles.

Dunno about your area, but in two I've lived in, the dealers whose franchises were cut were "jeep people" who had very good service departments and were willing to tell customers that some 3rd party parts and add-ons were better than the ones from Mopar. They actually seemed to care about owners as opposed to just shoveling off the new vehicles onto buyers as fast as possible.

There are still some good ones...

That's not really a direction that is viable if one wants to play in the $50k+ SUV market.
