The fault lies with the manufacturer, not the owner of the vehicle in this case.
A "Like replacement" would be a same year model with 24k miles on it, not a brand new jeep.

Why? Because if Jeep is offering her a new Jeep if she pays the diff, that means her insurance isn't paying anything...

It wasn't an accident, or uninsured motorist, it was poor build/manufacturer defect. The onus is on the them, not her, not her insurance company.

Has nothing to do with entitlement, and everything to do with backing your product.
And yes, auto insurance does cover this, under the comprehensive coverage. The auto insurance would of paid her the value of the vehicle based on the miles it has, ACV (actual cash value), not a new car price.

Then from there, because the incident was caused by an error with Chrysler, the insurance company would re-assign the loss to their subrogation department to seek recovery for the amount they paid on the loss, including getting the insured's deductible back. And since comprehensive claims are non surchargable, the customer doesn't have to worry about her rates going up.

So all in all, if she would have just gone through her insurance company, she ultimately would of paid nothing and gotten the real value of her loss. But no, being the greedy woman she is, she chose to take Chrysler to the moon and back for a brand new car she doesn't deserve.

Again, that $1600.00 for a brand new car, is an amazing deal and I commend Chrysler for even doing that (not many automakers would). So she needs to be happy for what they are doing/offering instead of trying to pick pocket every penny she can get.

Like I said before, I hope she get's nothing for her selfish-ness.

Houses start on fire all the time, you don't see the government recalling every house built to have it checked for faulty wiring.

Things just happen sometimes, not everything is perfect.

Considering it is still under factory warranty she should not have to pay one dime to get it fixed or for a brand new Jeep, it is a manufactures defect. I applaud her for bringing this to the news, it will hurt Chrysler more this way and I bet she will get a new one for free in the end.

Interesting to see different opinions on this but it all boils down to what you will do if it was your GC that catches on fire. Who will you go after, who will you complain to, what are you going to post on this board.

Just before I started my short drive to work, I glance at the passenger side of the roof liner just in case

Re: WK2 catches fire... eek!

This is why the economy is tanking so bad, because no one wants to spend a penny on anything, they expect everything for free. I won't even begin to talk about all the people on welfare I see buying grocery's with their link card, but yet have their nails nicely mancured and hair all freshly salooned up. If they can afford to do that stuff, then they can afford to buy food.

No joke, I saw a woman buying alcohol with a link card once.... and I know it was the expensive kind because it had a security seal on it...... I'm telling you, it took everything inside me not to lose my cool. Our tax dollars well spent right there.

Sorry to get off subject. It was a spur of the moment vent.

I don't think they will do free replacement. Sets the wrong example, there does need to be some cost and the cost that has been assigned is in line with other settlements like this I have seen.

As for the rest of it. Again, good she is not injured. I respect everyone's opinions but I think she is getting a fair deal. If there is a big problem here not 3 in 500,000 there will be a recall.

Exactly, there should be PLENTY of 2012's rolling around they could get their hands on, or even a 2013... not sure why they are opting for a 2014.

Yeah, houses catch fire but usually not less then 2 years after being built.

Yeah that was probably a bad anology on my part lol. But I'm just saying that things like this happen, it doesn't matter how good the assembly of the vehicle/house is, nothing is perfect and things go wrong sometimes.

The world isn't perfect and neither are the things created within.

I agree with this. What happened to her vehicle is the manufacturers fault. She should probably get more than just a brand new car, and she shouldn't be forced to get a Chrysler brand. They should buy it back at her original cost and pay her for mental anguish. What a horrible horrible thing to happen, FIRE INSIDE the cabin. Awful.

$1,600 is a lot of money; she shouldn't have to pay a dime. Her Jeep is under warranty.

If you go on that premise, all they will do is replace the seat and damaged materials and send her on her way. That is all the Warranty would cover.

Not trying to be a jerk but that is what the warranty would cover. If the vehicle does become part of a settlement / lawsuit they will look at the car... I would be very interested to find out what really happened (not saying it is not at Jeep's fault, just would like to know technically what happened???)

I don't agree at all. As bill said with the insurance, she's entitled to compensation for a 24k mile vehicle, not one with 0 miles. Doesn't even make sense. Substitute insurance with jeep and it's the same thing. She's entitled to compensation for the worth of the car that was damaged. In the end, Jeep even went above and beyond and is only asking 1600 to put her in a Jeep with 0 miles. I'd be ecstatic over it.
