Thumbs up WK2 fourth time owner

Well, maybe just a little over a year but the subject pretty much says it all. This may be lengthy but hopefully will make for some good reading!

I’m in the DC area and bought a V6 2013 Limited just three months before Jeep released the 2014 refresh in March of 2013. Bummer! Didn’t realize they were going to release it so early or I would have waited. Anyway, let’s say, I bought it around January 2013. Took it in for an oil change, coincidently the dealership was short a couple sales. They made me an unbelievable offer for a V6 2014 Limited. Hardly lost a dime even with taxes (trade ins are a bit different in Maryland and can really play to the customer's favor).

After driving it a few months I was a bit disappointed with the lack of some options and features of the Limited. It appeared to be missing some basic features like rain sensing wipers, real time traffic as it was only equipped with the 8.4A and not the 8.4AN UConnect system to name a few. I would think those would be basic features on such an expensive vehicle but alas, it was not equipped with the Lux II package. My mistake for not doing proper research, but I digress.

Similar situation with the trade of the 2014 Limited. I took it in for an oil change to the dealer last day in April 2014. Again, they told me they were short one sale to make their monthly goal. I'm like “is this really happening to me again??” Gee, how can I help you??" At this point I'm thinking they either really like me or really just toying with me. Long story short, I walked out with a V6 2014 Overland/tech package and again hardly lost a dime!! I was thrilled! But then again let's remember - this is a VERY EARLY 2014 model! You know where I'm going with this!

Drove it for about 1250 miles and it broke down on the side of the road and had to be towed. Something about a sensor or something, I don’t remember but the dealer fixed it. Driving another 1200 miles there were some quirky things happening electronically, reverse blue screen of death, etc. and then all of a sudden the "Christmas tree effect" (which by the way has a personal thread all on its own and we ain't talking about one of those with fancy presents beneath it!). Once again, towed to the dealer where they informed me 17 fault codes came up and they couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong with it.

After opening a STAR case with hardly any follow up, having many of the same issues others were having with their early 2014 models and then in the shop for over two weeks I had enough! Long story short, I went and picked up the Jeep. Traded it in and bought 2012 CPO BMW X5 3.5 XDrive ! Boy, was I ever relieved! Love it, no problems but after driving BMWs for the last several years, I'm seriously bored! It's really not all that exciting for me anymore, but despite all the problems I've had with my last Overland, I was still continually drawn to the WK2! Feeling a sense of loss.

So what did I do last night? Traded in the X5 and bought myself a beautiful V6 Black/Tan 2015 Overland with tech package!!!!!

Here's to hoping many of the issues are resolved in the 2015. So far, I'm seeing a lot less issues popping up on this forum so that seems like good news. I'll keep y'all posted but WOW! Getting back into this vehicle, I'M THRILLED!

Can't wait to see what vehicle you get at the next oil change.

Re: WK2 fourth time owner

Congrats on the new Jeep!
All I get from my dealer is a hard time when my Jeep is in for service.

WK2 fourth time owner in one year

i will say a prayer for you tonight before bed

my '14 GC has been in the shop for 33 days consecutive now with "christmas tree effect" and tranny shifting issues. Dealer has a star case opened and they have done nothing to fix the problem. Looks like ill be going down the lemon law path shortly. NY law states 30days or longer in for repair and not in driving condition, the vehicle would be eligible for a brand new replacement or a full refund. I verified this with a lemon law lawyer so i know this holds true in my case.

Im tossed between getting into another '15 Altitude (brand new replacement) or just going with another brand vehicle... all while getting my down payment and all monthly payments back.

I'm a former owner of a '08 grand cherokee... bought brand new in 2008 with 11 miles on it. Never had single problem up until the day i traded it in for my current '14 altitude back in august.

Re: WK2 fourth time owner in one year

It would appear to me by reading the forums daily that there seems to be a lot of issues worked out for the 2015 WK2. I opted to give it another shot as I only had problems on the 14 Overland. Hell, before that, I barely had my 14 Limited long enough to even take it to the local grocery store so I can't even comment on that one.

Congrats OP. But you didn't specify what engine you had on any of your vehicles.

Re: WK2 fourth time owner in one year

Wow...and I thought I was crazy trading in a 2014 Limited V6 for a later build 2014 Overland V6.

Like you I had a lot of issues with my first 2014 Limited, but for some reason I liked the vehicle enough to give Jeep one more try, and traded in for a 2014 Overland (one should always go better). Unfortunately I lost money on that deal, and I've had some issues with my Overland as well...though not as many as the Limited had. On the plus side, Chrysler has awarded me for all my troubles two free synthetic oil changes a year for 5 years, and an extended 5 yr/60,000 warranty with free rentals.

The main lesson I've learned is NEVER buy a first year American vehicle. If I ever happen to buy another Jeep Grand Cherokee, I will hold out for the 2017 model.

Re: WK2 fourth time owner in one year

Great story thanks for sharing.

Yeah, early 2014's were trouble, partly depended on your dealer and WHEN issues popped up. If you had a clueless dealer and went in with one of the early issues, you were in trouble.
