Re: WK2 Hemi 0-60

For the record, this is not my vehicle in the video but I'd say mine moves out about the same or a tick quicker.

I've stated my opinion in other threads that many of the "published" acceleration times were simply a repeat of factory estimates (7.5 for the Hemi, 8.5 for the Pentastar). Many online "road tests" repeating these numbers (without empirical measurement) sort of makes the numbers a de facto standard when they are not.

Regarding published times: In the very few cases where a magazine actually performed a timed test, they did so with a well-abused press pool vehicle. Having worked for a manufacturer and handled press pool vehicles I can unequivocally state they are beaten up and abused and only sometimes was a fresh vehicle provided to R&T, C&D or MT for testing. In other words there is not enough data to accurately assess road performance.

Re: WK2 Hemi 0-60

Has anybody measured 0-60 times separately with 87 and 89 octane fuels?

Re: WK2 Hemi 0-60

What's more important is a time corrected for temperature and elevation. That's the advantage of some magaine results and thereby being able to compare to other cars. Car and Driver has a 7.5 sec for 0-60 which seems average. Using a hand stop watch is useless.

Unfortunately, many of the V6 SUVs are doing better than that. So for a BIG 5.7 liter engine in a 5000 lb vehicle it's just average, neither fast or slow.

Well put. I wouldn't say that it's an "average" number but more of an "expected" number. People buy a V8 for many reasons, one being performance, so anything slower would be rather disappointing.

When the 4800lb. 2005 WK with 330hp hit the market, the printed numbers ranged from 6.8-7.0 seconds

Maybe in empty vehicle road test comparisons. It's not my normal routine, but I've pulled on a lot of V6 SUV drivers who tried to ghetto-lane me from stoplights...a peeve of mine. The only one that surprised me and stayed even was a V6 RAV4. The Hemi doesn't go like my Ruf 930 did, but it is certainly not average compared to other big-V8 SUVs we've had.

So not true. Ignore HP and look at the torque curve and gearing.

and traction, and shift points, weather, etc...

I have lost races before when I clearly should have won because of poor driving.
