Your car is more valuable as parts than fully assembled.

Re: WK2 Jeeps could be next ?

Looks like I now need to install a "manual" ignition kill switch of sorts...

I used to pull the starter relay in my past vehicles when parking for an extended amount of time, or in a bad area.

Re: WK2 Jeeps could be next ?

/\ Yeah I remember I used to pull the fuel pump fuse to make sure no one in my house would take my car for a joy ride if I left town for a couple days.

Back when cars had distributors, I use to pull the coil wire off.

Re: WK2 Jeeps could be next ?

I actually sold chrysler their mechanism to remote start and lock their autos.

I'll tell you this, each session has a timeout and very unique identifier that is very hard to intercept and replay since there are two token types and you most likely wont be able to get both and replay them both. This doesnt worry me at all. GM's is homegrown and doesnt use nearly as accepted of a security standard.

I actually just sold VW and Audi the same thing as Chrysler, BMW and Toyota.

100% correct.....However...

Code stealing electronics have been around for years. That's why we have insurance. The criminal element is growing larger and more sophisticated all the time. Pros just take what they want.
100% right.

But, the problem would likely be cured by summary execution of thieves.

Due process can be very counter productive at times.

Fine. Execution upon conviction & appellate process. We allow too many criminals to get away with way too much. Our society is weak and getting weaker. The degree to which we need theft protection is insane. I really loved the comment by someone along the lines of "that's why we have insurance". Gee, I wonder why our rates are so high. Eliminate the criminals and watch crime & costs both drop.

Re: WK2 Jeeps could be next ?

I said, "that's why we have insurance", and I bet you have it too. I'm not disagreeing with you at all, and I literally meant what I said about due process. I've had some interesting conversations with people involved in our criminal justice system. They will be the first to admit it's becoming a revolving door for criminals. WTF are we going to do? I have a concealed carry permit. I haven't used my weapon, but I feel safer with it. We could go back to the wild west. Lots of blood in the streets, especially with the armaments floating around out there. I don't have any answers, but if we don't look at history, we are doomed to repeat our mistakes. All great civilizations of the past eventually fizzled and died. Some day in the future someone will write a book about the rise and fall of this empire. You said it, our society is weak and getting weaker. Most great civilizations of the past succumbed to internal decay. Look at our infrastructure, see any decay? I could go on and on. See what you got me started with here? My apologies. My only answer is to work hard, be honest, take care of those I love, and try to enjoy what we have left of this great country. One thing I did recently towards that end was buy myself a brand new Jeep.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Rockraines, nice sell Congrats. Any idea why the AC shuts down when you open driver door after a remote start? Chrysler does not seem to know? We have another thread started on this, you can reply there that way im not hijacking this thread

Re: WK2 Jeeps could be next ?

My 2011 WK2 was broke into yesterday. Passenger-side door. They got $200 cash I inadvertently left in the armrest after an ATM visit. Great timing.

I do suspect the door was unlocked. I am not 100% diligent on this task, but I may have motivation to improve. ugh!

Some interesting news about the a/c problem developing on this thread:
AC Shots off when remote starting the vehicle
