Some people like to plan for a nuclear blast and others (like me) would rather use the storage for sports equipment.

I figure I can call someone if something happens.

Must be my mentality. I'm usually the person people call when something happens.

Re: WK2 Junk in the trunk: version 2.0 - interior storage compatments

you wouldn;t happen to have a pic without the bins there, would you?
I'm curious to see how much room is around that tire.

I like the fact that you have all the gear placed in there. I too am usually the guy that gets called when something happens. It's nice to have gear on board...and esp. out of site for when it's needed.

Now to find a way to lock that compartment with a key

Re: WK2 Junk in the trunk: version 2.0 - interior storage compatments

none. Rear floor seals pretty good, and i have the OEM jeep rubber trunk protector, which would muffle any rattling. I'm extremely sensitive to rattling in my cars, I wouldn't tolerate that.

Re: WK2 Junk in the trunk: version 2.0 - interior storage compatments

I keep mostly detailing supplies in the rear cargo area. Hidden discretely in the driver's seat storage compartment, my air compressor, a few misc 12vdc/120vac cords, and some rounds of various ammunition. Sucks I have to fold the rear seats down to carry a 50.

Left bin - various bungees, ratchet straps, and a recovery tow strap.
Right bin - tow hitches (2" and 1 7/8") and leather gloves
Back left - currently vacant
Back right - small air compressor
On top of spare - "T" lug wrench - provides four sizes for the various trailers I tow.

Re: WK2 Junk in the trunk: version 2.0 - interior storage compatments

From memory, so may be forgetting a couple of things (don't feel like going out and digging through all that stuff, but no rattles although the cover needs a slight extra nudge now to close):

-Ball mount with 2" stainless ball, shoehorned into cavity for that purpose.
-Hitch pins (2), in plastic bags to prevent rattling.
-Spare lug nuts and lock lug socket in bubble pack to prevent rattling.
-Tow rope.
-Qt 5W-30 Mobil 1 EP in baggie in case of leakage.
-Small funnel.
-Large dial tire gauge.
-Canvas zipper bag with corkscrew/knife/bottle opener, tools, valve covers, bulbs, fuses, spare cork, cigar, etc.
-Jumper cables.
-Small medical kit.
-National and county atlases.
-Photocopied instructions in large baggie for changing tire (for wife's benefit).
-Baseball cap.
-Rag.
-Partial roll of paper towels, squeezed flat.
-Plastic scrubber for stubborn bird poop, bugs and such.
-Snow brush with ice scraper.
-Bungee straps (2).
-Workout weights (2) for wife.
-Coffee warmer, 12V.
-Powerful 12V 5" halogen work light with long cord.
-Plastic silver emergency (outer space) emergency blankets (2) to prevent freezing to death (where we sometimes go, it can happen).
-Regular fabric blanket.
-Hitch tow eye, wrapped in above blanket.
-Weatheralert radio with battery.
-Left side cavity above floor: two folding umbrellas (rechargeable flashlight already built into Overland).
-Shoehorned into right hitch electrical cavity: spare fob battery.

Not far from the truth! It's amazing just how much can be crammed into those nooks and crannies. There used to be a song about how there's always more toothpaste in the tube, and it's kinda like that.

Who's going to be the first to replace the 18" spare with a donut spare so yet more stuff can be packed into that cavity?

Quick tip...Remove the storage bins and there is a lot more space left underneath for even more goodies.
