On the one hand we love our Jeeps, but hope they don't become TOO popular - ie on the 10 most wanted list.

Here is the latest info on the 10 most stolen, and <whew> our Grand Cherokee didn't make the list (this year):

The top 10 most frequently stolen vehicles in Canada are:

2009 Toyota Venza 4-door
1999 Honda Civic SiR 2-door
2000 Honda Civic SiR 2-door
2006 Ford F350 Pickup Truck 4WD
2002 Cadillac Escalade EXT 4-door AWD
2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS 4-door 4WD
2007 Ford F350 Pickup Truck 4WD
2001 Pontiac Aztek 4-door AWD
1998 Acura Integra 2-door
1999 Acura Integra 2-door

From the 2011 Insurance Bureau of Canada statistics.
There's crime in Canada?

Hmm...interesting to go back and re-read one of my old threads. It's funny how my only intention was to inform people, but a few members here somehow took offense and started with a negative attitude from their very first post in the thread.

Off-topic, but I come from a province that had some of the highest auto theft rates in North America. The capital city, Winnipeg, had an auto theft rate was about 80 percent higher than the next highest Canadian or U.S. city. One in every 5 crimes in Winnipeg was an auto theft. It got so bad that the province required vehicle owners to either have a factory-installed or aftermarket vehicle immobilizer. Otherwise it couldn't be registered.

As draconian as it was/is, it definitely had an impact. In 2010 there were 3,173 vehicles stolen or attempted to be stolen. In 2006 there were 16,986 in auto thefts. Since 2006, auto theft rates have dropped by 83% and Winnipeg has 11,000 fewer crimes each year.

I don't know if you had it in Manitoba or not, but I recall years ago Insurance company's here offering a discount if you installed a red flashing LED on your dash (to discourage break-ins) and also a discount if you used a Anti-Theft Steering wheel bar lock.

Yeah this one is really strange.

Interesting how there is not a single German car on the list. I wonder how to interpret that.

Never owned one, course... never been to Brooklyn either.

Yeah, but don't forget that the list was most STOLEN, not most DESIRED.
I can't imagine someone really wanting an Aztek, but I do have a theory (or 2):

a) owners actually hope someone steals the thing, and so leave them unlocked. Perhaps even with the keys inside (and fresh baked muffins)
Did you ever see Cranston lock his Aztek on the series Breaking Bad?

b) They are stolen by The Society for the Beautification of America who take them and drive them off cliffs into bottomless pits.
Just doing their small part to make the world a nicer place.

Re: WK2 owners - be careful with your keys

Hey, what's wrong with Brooklyn?

By the way: I recently paid attention - practically nobody uses steering wheels clubs in Brooklyn anymore.
