I remember that Jeep commercial. I am sure he did not have Latitude Tours on!

Re: WK2 Snow Beast Tips - Post 'Em Here

Thanks for the tips, my first snow season with the Jeep (Drove an 07 WK two years ago). But can anyone chime in on how well the Goodyear Forteras are in snow?

Damn, can't wait to put these 20's back on this spring.

I use a similar one that they sell at tirerack and i think amazon sells same one. It is adjustable on the wall which is helpful.

Re: WK2 Snow Beast Tips - Post 'Em Here

One can certainly get by with the Forteras in snow, but IMO it's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.

Note these TR snow ratings for the GY Forteras are well below those of the Winter or AT category in the first post. Maybe OK for light winter climates.

Re: WK2 Snow Beast Tips - Post 'Em Here

Moose- you got a nice lookin Jeep there. I ALMOST went with silver but I had a 93 White GC Laredo that I loved so I figure why not go with white again for old time's sake.

To add to the thread on snow tips-
When getting through deep snow, such as a big snow drift, keep your forward momentum going and don't let your foot off the gas as long as you're moving forward. If you feel like your momentum is slowing, keep the tires spinning (not excessively) and turn the wheel back and forth to try and get some more grip. If you do lose all your forward momentum, do not keep the wheels spinning since that will just dig you in further. Try reversing out and if you're still stuck you can try and rock back and forth, but mind the transmission when you're doing it.

While forward momentum is huge and does require some speed going into the deep stuff, take into consideration how fast you're going relative to how packed/icy the snow is and what may be underneath it (aka curbs, hard pack from the plow, etc).

Drive in other people's tracks if they're there.

For icy driving if you do end up sliding towards a curb, steer so your wheels are pointed towards it, not perpendicular to it. This one just makes me cringe thinking about the drivers I have seen with their wheels cranked as they hopelessly try to avoid sliding into the curb. Saw a WRX front end literally explode into pieces doing this only going about 5mph.

^Chris, some might call you crazy for thinking snow a month out from Memorial Day, and after the worst snow year ever, but I'm repping you for the above post.

Re: WK2 Snow Beast Tips - Post 'Em Here

Haha, thanks for my first rep!!! Dude I'm on the other side of the planet right now and I won't get back until it's winter time; so yeah, in my mind it is dumping on the Rockies and I will have some sweet pow to shred when I finally get home.

I also love 4x4ing in the snow, if you couldn't tell already. It re-ups my man points when I power through big drifts nobody else will touch. My 93 GC was great for that, until the transfer case went out and I couldn't afford to fix it so had to drive a hand-me down buick from my grandma ...this was during college

EDIT: And some DO call me crazy, hence the name!!!!!

Re: WK2 Snow Beast Tips - Post 'Em Here

Great tips! Im looking forward to trying the GC in the snow. Coming from a M3 on coilovers with winter tires on to a GC with winter tires should mean I get around like a beast. Will probably head up to the nearest pass when it starts snowing just to get the hang of it in the snow.
